Troy Davis willing to take polygraph test, lawyers say
http://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/troy-davis-willing-to-1185439.html

Troy Anthony Davis is willing to take a polygraph test before he is scheduled to be executed Wednesday night to show he is not a cop killer, his lawyer said late Tuesday evening.

"Mr. Davis believes he is innocent and he wants to show it," Stephen Marsh, one of Davis' lawyers, said. "We hope he'll be allowed this opportunity."

(snip)
Marsh said Davis' legal team has yet to be cleared by the Department of Corrections to have the test administered Wednesday, but he said Davis' lawyers will show up at the state prison in Jackson with a polygraph examiner in the morning.

Davis also wants some assurance from the parole board that it will take his test into consideration, Marsh said.

1. Good, but the evidence (or really lack thereof) should suffice in the case of Troy Davis.

2. Too late. His fate has been determined
Where was this several years ago?

I hate that the only noise you hear around a DP case is two days before the execution.

3. Let's hope for a last minute reprieve. It happened last time, in 2008.
I can't believe justice is so unjust in a civilized country. Let us hope his refusal of his last meal won't be in vain.

5. The state never makes a mistake.
Which is why we will eventually fall as a nation.

11. PRECISELY. It's not one damn bit about Troy Davis's case, ever since the verdict. It's about the
process. Are all of the boxes checked, dotted lines signed, files in order, deadlines met, formulas spoken, etc. etc. etc.

It's about CYA, by showing everyone you'll go all of the way and execute someone and thereby validate all past executions and retain the power for all future executions.

If you admit even the slightest thing is wrong with ANY of that, the whole thing falls apart and they ARE NOT going to let that happen, so it's all CYA, not what is good or bad.

*rhetorical you, of course.

7. Whatever
Ultimately, with his appeals etc. he has to keep coming back to the same people.

The same people who have rigged the systems and the processes that have brought us to this point.

Don't put it past the powers that be to rig his polygraph test to say that he "failed" it.

10. If they are not willing to Polygraph him with then he is innocent.
It plainly speaks that they are worried about what the outcome of his results would be.

14. Unfortunately, polygraph tests are not reliable, which is why we don't use them to convict

Of course at this point, any Hail Mary play is worth making.

However, the popular notion that polygraph tests are probative of anything is kinda sad.

If you believe a polygraph test could demonstrate anyone's innocence or guilt to an acceptable degree of reliability, then do you also think we should use them for trials?

We don't, in part because they can't.

18. Flame away if you or anyone else wants to, I will say it.
I OPPOSE unions for police. Agents of the state (who carry firearms and have "qualified immunity") have more than enough power. They do not need unions.

19. So I did...
the next time the FOP calls me for a donation I'm going to tell them on Troy's behalf to tell Chuck Canterberry to "Fuck off!"; I'll make my decision on donation upon their response.

(I generally like cops...I have a family full of them, but anybody who would defend the legitimacy of the Davis debacle is an asshole or a moron. There is simply no doubt that Redd Coles and not Troy Davis killed Mark McPhail or that the DA's office and investigating officers acted inappropriately to gain a conviction that's as shaky as matchsticks upon scrutiny.)
