GOP Leaders To Bernanke: Dude, Quit Trying To Fix The Economy
GOP Leaders To Bernanke: Dude, Quit Trying To Fix The Economy

House and Senate GOP leadership are taking fire from all sides for publicly pressuring Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke not to further loosen monetary policy, even if he thinks it will help the economy.

In a Tuesday letter to Bernanke, leaked to the press, Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Jon Kyl (R-AZ), and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), ostentatiously cautioned Bernanke against providing the economy any further monetary stimulus.

"We submit that the board should resist further extraordinary intervention in the U.S. economy, particularly without a clear articulation of the goals of such a policy, direction for success, ample data proving a case for economic action and quantifiable benefits to the American people," the Republicans write.

Because the Fed's monetary policy decisions are expressly intended to be immune to political pressures the letter has generated backlash from Democrats and Republicans alike.

1. Just more proof that they are more than willing to tank the economy...
...if it gets Obama on the unemployment line...

And these stupid inbred fuckers wonder why their collective approval rating is slightly higher than the clap...

3. There was a day when the SCOTUS was supposed to be above partisan influnces too.

Now they are openly partisan, with Quack Quack Scalia teaching Republican members of Congress what they can get away with.

4. I would reply, "And you want the economy to dive, why?"
We all know why, and they all know why, but you won't be hearing them say why. That's what they do. It's all politics all the time. Somewhere along the line, I'd say around the time Reagan was elected, it stopped being about the country and became all about politics. Congress quit being stewards of the country and became stewards of their respective political parties. The names Trent Lott and Tom Delay come to mind.

6. If Either Bernanke OR His Opposition Knew What They Were Doing
it might make a difference.

As it is, neither group has a clue. They can plot and plan and execute, and the economy will keep dying.

Get all these clowns out of the picture, and put some professional, educated, principled geeks in charge, and watch what happens...

 Yeah, like that will happen!

7. Can we just admit the GOP needs the economy to suck in order to win?
