TROY GETS A Reprieve. (Not a stay)
Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 06:47 PM by Gregorian
Just saw this on Democracy Now live feed

Edit- second person confirming on the feed.

Second edit- Troy's lawyer is not confirming that there is a stay. UGH. We better hold off on the excitement. I'm sorry to have
posted too quickly.

Third edit- Confirmed by Troy's lawyers- Troy has received a reprieve.

At 7:45 it was reported that there is now a 1 to 7 day reprieve.

42. According to the Supreme Court's Website
Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 06:28 PM by FedUp_Queer
The last order was yesterday for Cleve Foster. I, for one, don't see any stay or reprieve.

http://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/ordersofthecourt.aspx

http://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/courtorders/092011zr.pdf

Sadly, the Georgia Supreme Court denied a stay unanimously, not surprisingly.

23. talk about last minute?
and this is another reason why the DP as it is currently applied is cruel and unusual punishment. To schedule an execution and then at the last minute stay it, in effect, makes the comdemned die more than once. Yet a stay and giving as much due process as possible is obviously correct, unless you want to execute the innocent which is also cruel and unusual punishment. There is no way the DP, while in and of itself is not cruel and unusual, can be applied in practice in any way which is not.

At first she was told it was a stay.

Lawyer says not executed yet but no confirmation of a stay, either.

18. I went in to practice
to distract myself from all this. Came out thinking he had been executed several minutes ago. I saw the thread that said there was cheering on the CNN feed and thought Jebus this country is so far gone and then I saw this.

Really? Seriously? I am so very happy about this. This poor man, what a torture he has been through.

Will they have to retry the case? Will they? I don't know but the fact that he is not dead makes me very happy.

53. Thanks for responding.
I did not see it until now. I got to rehearsal knowing the decision could come at any time and told my conductor. We shared a hug and a thumbs up hoping beyond hope that this would work out for Troy. Sad to leave rehearsal to find out he died about 2 minutes before we left. This is just so mind bendingly painful.

Anyway, thanks for letting me know when you did :-) thought I should respond.
