My frusteration with the democratic party
Convservatives are brilliant at selling a crappy product that benefits less than 10 percent of the us population. Democrats are horrible at selling an excellent product that would benefit 90 percent of the population. If thats not frusterating enough, democrats seem to be putting little effort into improving their sales skills. The political gridlock that exists now should never have happened. Lack of Democratic sales skills kept democrats from successfully selling their accomplishments from Obama's first 2 years in office to the American People. As a result, we lost control of the House, and now were suffering the consequences. If democrats don't learn how to be agressive sales pros, Conservatives will just continue to manipulate the middle class into voting to self destruct themselves!!! Its not that hard!! Conservatives love to use the phrase government takeover to scare people, why can't we use the phrases "corporate takeover" or "religious zealots" to start scaring people!! Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are the wrong people for democratic leadership, and I'm beginning to think Obama should step aside and let Hilary run in 2012. The chemistry we have right now is only contributing to Conservative's success and the demise of the middle class.

We need more aggressive bold people in democratic leadership like former Florida Rep. Alan Grayson. And we need the political expertise of George Lakoff http://www.georgelakoff.com to counter Karl Rove.

We need swift and bold action!!

3. I don't think it's that simple
It may be frust-er-rating, but right wingers believe that crap. You're just saying Rs are better at brainwashing and that everybody's brainwashed. Right wingers should get credit - they aren't just dupes. They really think things should be as they say.

7. maybe it is.....
Republicans are brilliant at using "emotion" words and phrases like "government takeover" Why don't democrats counter with phrases such as corporate takeover, predatory corporations, religious zealots highjacking science, limited govenment = more powerful, predatory corporations, destroy the middle class.....there are so many different phrases democrats could scare people with. I never hear any of these. Why should democrats want to scare people?? Simple, conservative ideology is scarry, very scarry!!

8. Because many Democrats rely on those predatory corporations for campaign donations.
You are assuming that they actually want to do things to help the people as a whole and not the overlords when in fact they do not. They could have done anything they wanted with the majorities they had in Congress and yet they chose not to. They could have steamrolled the Republicans with progressive legislation like they do to us with the fascist shit and they did not. Why do you think that is?

9. Would those terms scare most voters?
Too many Americans are religious for the zealot line to work - it would offend too many. The word "corporation" may not invoke rage in the average American.

Don't know what the words to use are - maybe endless uncontrolled pollution would scare people.

10. Absolutely. It's all about the marketing.
And the Democrats SUCK at it. Having taken some business and marketing classes, it's apparent to me that Democrats don't even use marketing as a tool to try to win people over. There is not one marketing tool they have used effectively.

Republicans, OTOH, are excellent at marketing. As you said, they are marketing a crappy product that only benefits 10% or so and 50% are buying it! They have always been far ahead of the Democrats in this. I truly believe if you KNOW marketing and apply it, you can convince anyone of anything. Marketing has become extremely sophistacted, very tightly linked with psychology.

Here in Canada, I am convinced that the reason Jack Layton and the NDP's won official opposition was because of the absolutely brilliant marketing campaign during this year's election. Even my conservative family would get all misty eyed during the tv ads. They were expertly put together to evoke strong emotion (which is what most people will follow, not their brains unfortunately) During the election before the last one they also had the brilliant idea of hijacking the term 'strong' from the conservatives. The NDP's went from relatively obscure 3rd party to official opposition in 9 years. Re-branding and intense marketing can go a long way in convincing people that you will be the one who works in their best interests. Democrats need to get with it. Either they are being deliberately obtuse, or they are out of touch completely OR they WANT to lose.

11. Absolutely, republicans are maniupulating the middle class to self destruct themselves
Democrats seem to have no interest to manipulate the middle class to vote to save/ stregthen themselves. The fact that dems lost control of the house in 2010 is a sure sign of their lack of sales skills.

12. I hope you will come to realize that Democrats have never voted in mid term elections
This is just a fact. That most Democrats never bother to vote in mid term elections. This has been the case for a very long long time. It is very sad that this is the case, and the Democratic Party doesn't bother with GOTV efforts for mid terms. I'm not really sure why that is. Perhaps there are not enough low level Party Members such as Precinct Chairs to make sure their Precincts go to the Polls. This really needs to change.

I suppose that becomes the responsibility of ALL of us and not the higher level Democrats in the Party. As Candidate Obama said in 08, 'Change starts from the bottom up.' That's where we come in and make our voices heard, and spread the word to our neighbor, friends, and families.

13. I was not aware of that, thanks for the disturbing info....
Democrats deserved to be rewarded in 2010, instead they got sucker punched. I just wished the democratic party would get its act together and win by successfully selling its principles instead of depending on republicans causing chaos in order to win!!

14. We do but some consider working within a failed ideology
and putting their spin on it as being reasonable or in the mainstream of thought. They consider it being an alternative. Needless to say, I do not. I cannot prevent the shit that is happening to this country or the ignorance of a propagandized peopole or the darkness of the political soul that seeks expediency and poll numbers above rightness of cause and soul. I hope I get to leave this shit hole soon.
