What Is Happening In The Troy Davis Case Should Be.....

...Grounds for the sentenced being commuted to life in prison...I think it is inhumane to make a person get ready to die and then play with him like a cat with a mouse.

This is another reason why the death penalty should be outlawed across the USA. Sad it takes on average 15 years to carry out these sentences and does it make the murder rate drop one damn bit.

1. All day I've been wondering who has the ability to commute his sentence
In a case like this where there is a real possibility that the convicted may not be the guilty party, why not commute a death sentence to life without parole? Then if enough evidence of innocence is found, he can be judged innocent and released, while death is final.

Of course if the answer to my question is a Republican governor we know that no leniency will be allowed.

2. Totally agree. Can you imagine how you would feel being tied to a gurney
waiting to die? Not to mention how inhumane this is for his family.

3. Did you know they have an antidote to the poisonous cocktail they use?
Just in case?

5. The "ritual" of what he ate for his last meal is really disgusting!
I remember movies, from my earliest years, this whole game of "the last meal" being in every movie where someone was being executed. As if what the person ate is important...we must know that he was sent off with a good meal!
I'm against capital punishment anyhow...but this last meal practice is just grotesque

7. He refused his "last meal" and opted for the "prison standard" plate of food for dinner. nt

12. I agree completely. "We're going to kill you after you choose to eat whatever you want. Cool, yeah?"

10. I completely agree - I was disgusted
by hearing what he ate. It's like a high-tech lynching - the media frothing at the mouth, waiting to report any and everything. We have no decency anymore.

6. He's both the cat and the mouse
If he didn't keep filing appeals, this wouldn't happen. I don't blame him for not giving up, but the only way to prevent this from happening is to restrict the appeals process. I don't think that's a good idea.

9. The world is protesting. Democracy Now just showed video of Germany
France, and several other groups of people at embassies, protesting.

This is uplifting. America is barbaric, and I'm not ashamed to say it. I will speak out. I will be honest without holding back.

11. You are right - America is barbaric.
I'm not ashamed to say it either! If there's ANYTHING left in this godforsaken country that we can still be proud of, I don't know what it is.

14. Yeah, we're mostly good and decent people in this country,
but our Constitution has been trashed and the barbarians run the show. And I don't see any sign that it's going to change any time soon. In fact, it's probably going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
