Fuck the death penalty
As James Bryd's family said murder for murder does not work.
The last state execution of a Jamaican was in 1988. Of course we still have extra-judicial killings by cops but despite voting to maintain the death penalty on the books, no government in Jamaica would dare execute anyone because of the global repercussions.

4. It's not outlawed here
Indeed the morons here played politics a few years ago and voted to keep it on the books, but they wouldn't dare execute anyone.

10. I keep waiting for the pivotal moment in America.
The one where we start to be more like Norway, or other places where there is a common sense, a caring, and understanding that humans are fragile and imperfect. And mistakes don't need to haunt us and our families.

There is way too much defensiveness here.

Are we strong? Because strength is difficult, and looks like weakness sometimes.

26. Reasonable doubt
is not a high enough standard where life and death are concerned. Maybe if you had proof beyond all doubt, real and imagined, you might have something. But that's not possible. Where I come down is that a life sentence can always be remedied; a death penalty mistake cannot.

I don't get the small government conservatives who say that government can't get anything right. Somehow, these same people will turn around and let the government say who dies and who gets to live.

Fuck the death penalty despite people who are fine with executing innocent people. Fuck the death penalty despite people confusing conviction of a crime with guilt of that crime.

33. So in spite of the evidence
that the state of Texas and now the State of Georgia have executed innocent men, once convicted fuck them?

We are humans and we do make mistakes, or you believe in the heart of hearts that the system is perfect? Don't move to Illinois, a state where a REPUBLICAN got rid of the DP due to evidence of judicial misconduct and other problems with the DP.

I really cannot understand this black and white thinking by the way...

What is interesting is how much lower the murder rate is in countries that do not sanction killing by the state.
