We were able to recently stop the death penalty in Illinois
Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 10:18 PM by mucifer
Of course some of this had to do with the fact that the last 3 governors, George Ryan who started a moritorium on the death penalty in 2000, Blago kept it going and this year Pat Quinn signed a law stopping the death penalty. The law got passed by the state legislature. This came about because false confessions occurred through police torture. There were several people on death row set free because of false convictions and the remained on death row got their sentences commuted to life in prison.

It can be done.

1. Wasn't there a man recently executed in Texas that DNA results later proved
he was innocent? I thought I read something about that. And I'm sure he wasn't the first nor the last innocent man put to death in Texas.

3. Governor George Ryan who started the death penalty moritorium is a repub and a crooked
politician who actually is currently in jail for a political scandal. But, he has a soul. He spent a lot of time researching the facts and made a great decision.

4. I'll never forget
the speech he gave establishing the moratorium on the death penalty. It was a rare reminder of our humanity from a politician. Rare!

5. That may have been the single most courageous act ever by a politician
For that, he has my respect.
