A Saginaw physician says recent state legislation that would ban partial birth abortion is unlikely to have an impact in Michigan.

Both houses of the state Legislature voted to make partial-birth abortion a felony today. It awaits a signature or veto by Gov. Rick Snyder.

“I only know of three doctors in the country,” said Saginaw physician Dr. Duane Heilbronn Jr. “Partial birth abortion is not a technical, medical term. It’s a political one.”

He said none of those doctors practice in Michigan.
