Yahoo! apologizes for blocking Wall Street protest emails

Yahoo! has admitted that its email filters were blocking news of the ongoing occupation of Wall Street by activists, which is now in its fourth day.

An investigation by Think Progress found that emails containing a link to the OccupyWallSt.org website – which contains the latest updates on the protest – were being bounced back by Yahoo! unsent, with a message to the sender reading: "Suspicious activity has been detected on your account. To protect your account and our users, your message has not been sent.”

Think progress was right and I fear some will defend this.

3. It's an automated process

When a website is reported enough times -legitimately or not- it gets blacklisted. It then falls on the owner of the website to contact Yahoo and ask them to fix it. I administer several progressive websites and we get blacklisted all the time. Getting a website blacklisted is a very simple trick for an entity with vast financial resources to pull.

4. Unfortunately my e-mail on AT&T comes through Yahoo. They put

my incoming Democratic mail (people from the President, various groups, etc.) into spam. These e-mails are on my address list and I have complained often. Now I have to read all of my spam to make sure I don't miss the intentioned incoming...
