Help me respond to a Republican relative
He doesn't believe that most red states TAKE more $$ from the federal government than they pay in. I'm sure I've read that this is the case.
Could someone please direct me to a site with details on this?

Thanks!

4. Interesting question
but how much of that is defense spending? It seems logical and reasonable that we're going to have a lot of military base spending per capita in large, lowly-populated red states.

Frankly, I wouldn't go there on this. There are better ways to argue your points than to use Federal dollars spent.

7. That one is automatic. Metro areas also drive state tax bases as well.
Here is an essential regarding the Republicans, even ignoring the Teabaggers, Birchers, or whatever the batshit fringe de jour is, they are wrong about virtually everything and about any of the few things they are right on almost has to be a million monkeys with a million typewriter scenario.
This because of theory based on complete misinformation, gross distortion, and a willful disregard for reality.

If you just sit down and think about things beyond complete isolation things like this should be apparent. Your commerce and population centers are going to be the principle driver of tax revenues.

8. It depends. If it is broken down per capita, some blue states take in

much more per person than red states. Total expenditures per state is not the whole story. See the link for more ...
