So we just got an $1,800 check from American Cool Air....
Have no idea why we got it...

It's a legitimate wholesaler of cooling products for places like Chicken Farms.

Should we cash it?

1. Is it addressed to you specifically? Do you own a chicken farm?

But no, if it's a mistake you shouldn't cash it...

2. If it's not yours, don't cash it.
Chances are they'll catch the error soon enough, but I'd probably write "VOID" on the check and send it right back to them with a not telling them they issued it to you by mistake.

Trust me, it's easier in the long run.

3. My guess: It is a discount "check", basically a coupon disguised as a check.
Read the fine print front and back.

I'll bet it's only good toward an installation of a full central air and heating system.

:hi:

5. If it's not cash, don't deal with it. Strings are usually attached.
And even if it's cash, strings can still be attached. It could be some drug dealer's money, and you don't wanna mess around with money that belongs to people with guns.

If you cash it, and it's a mistake, you could still be liable.

16. To avoid the feds, scammers usually do not use the USPS
Treat anything from UPS or Fedex with extreme caution.

20. Your bank should have information about any current check scams.
More than likely they'll know all about it, if not they should be willing to investigate it a bit for you.
