Please stop calling it the "Mainstream Media"

MarKOS had a great idea a few years back: call it the "Traditional Media." It's respectful, yet allows for an inference that they are losing their relevance in the world of bloggers and the Internet (Gooooo TYT!). Calling them "mainstream" allows them to maintain their grip on the narrative when they want nothing more than to serve their corporate masters. They are a shrinking portion of media and should be discussed as such. Thanks for reading.

10. That is the one I like and use a big part of the time. They are corporate, like MSNBC & CNBC owned

by General Electric. So, I will continue using corporate but can see traditional as well and which is better than MSM.

8. It's catchy, but

still reminds people of the term, "mainstream." Thus, people still attribute the gospel according to tv and print as infallible. I'm happy with "corporate media." Thanks for all the input. Let's change the tone and message!

9. "Catchy" is the most important factor here.

Think like a marketing professional and y'all will come up with something that's easy to remember, rolls off the tongue and still creates the image you want the masses to visualize. Neither "Traditional Media" nor "Corporate Media" fit the criteria.

The fewer syllables, the better :)

6. I'm with City Lights on Corporate Media. "Traditional Media" is a problem term for me

I think it is outdated because:

- it seems to assume that the blogosphere was going to "save us" somehow. And yet how many far right blogs are out their peddling lies etc? There is more disinformation on the net than there is in much of the say, the CBS evening news.

- "Traditional" implies print and television. Yet corporate media clearly has a huge internet presence.

The term "Corporate Media" also helps us understand why that kind of media is the way that it is. To the owners, news is the filler between commercials. The more popular your news show is, the more you can charge for ads. So the news is packaged for popularity and ratings.

11. We really need to say CORPORATE MEDIA. Not all corporations

are enemies of the American people, but many are. And some of our most powerful enemies are corporations. We need to realize that we are no longer being told the truth by the vast majority of the media. CORPORATE media should be the term, imo.
