Unbelievable wind storm yesterday (Saturday 9/24)! (DIAL-UP WARN)

I called in a wind and relative humidity report mid-afternoon
yesterday. It was something like "wind south-southwest 25-35 mph -
occasional gusts to 45 mph - and relative humidity 12%." The Pine
Mountain observatory (10 miles away) recorded 47 mph gusts on their
AWOS (automated weather observation system) about the same time.

About 4:30 pm a small weather cell moved up from the south, with virga
and very little vertical development (wind sheer?), but kicking up an
an impressive dust front (go-around time on short final in a Boeing
737!). As it moved over me the wind picked up - from the south - to a
fantastic level (I estimated 75 mph, and I've been in a few
hurricanes, etc). Stuff was flying off the lookout's catwalk, and my
wind-sustainability experiment with my range tent came to a sad end.
The tent ended up on the downwind side of the butte in a clump of
manzanita, none the worse for wear - thank goodness.

8. I don't like them either but seeing the conditions of bees, refuse to kill any

although my 7 mo pup did after recently getting stung for the first time. :(
