Chart: How The Climate-Change Deniers Won
Source: Mother Jones

Remember when Republicans still cared about climate change? Four years ago, GOP presidential candidate John McCain was proudly proclaiming that he'd co-sponsored a bill to cap carbon emissions. But at this month's Republican debate in California, every presidential wannabe except Jon Huntsman denied that man-made climate change was a problem. And in another depressing sign of how far global warming has fallen off the political radar, hardly anyone on either side of the Solyndra tempest has argued that betting on the company was important for non-economic reasons. What happened here? In short, the climate change deniers won. Here's a handy chart of how they pulled it off.

3. We lost because, regardless of the deniers, nothing of measurable action
has actually been done to limit carbon.

Until we find a way to clean or filter the air, we are basically fucked.

The time carbon stays up in the atmosphere is thousands of years.

The amount of carbon (and other heavy metals) that have been released since the start of the industrial revolution is enormous and goes on at this very moment. Just by me typing on this computer, I'm adding to it.

Our mission should now be trying to stop or limit the release of the methane trapped in the siberian tundra.

Once that goes, we are done.

But given the current brake-less freight train to hell our world leaders seem to enjoy riding, I don't honestly believe anything will be done in any measure to mitigate carbon levels, let alone heavy metals and/or methane.

I'm not a doomer, but I'm just accepting the reality of the situation. The problem is so mind boggling enormous, that quite frankly, I don't believe world leaders are capable of dealing with it.

2. I think defeat is being conceded much too quickly here
the economy has put climate change on the 'back burner' so to speak however that will change
