I am not quick enough on my feet/in my thinking. They ask yes/no, "Do you agree with the president's debt reduction plan?"

Can any kind soul help me respond to these points being made by Congressman Hurt from Virginia which appear after this question? (There is a section for comments).

* President Obama is calling on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction – who is tasked with reducing the deficit – to raise taxes by $1.5 trillion.

* The President’s plan raises taxes on small business and private capital—two essential ingredients for job creation in the 5th District, and something I have tried to protect with H.R. 1082 The Small Business Capital Access and Job Preservation Act, legislation I introduced to support the creation of new jobs and to preserve existing jobs both in Central and Southside Virginia, and across the country.

* America will not become more competitive by taxing, spending, and regulating more than our competitors. House Republicans put fundamental tax reform in our budget to make the tax code fairer, flatter, simpler to help create jobs, and it’s our hope that the president would support that effort.

Isn't about time we raised taxes to pay for it, Mr. Hurt? And who better to pay those taxes than those who've made out so well financially while our military men and women have been fighting on their behalf?

The $1.5 trillion figure comes from letting the Bush tax cuts expire.
Calling the expiration of a tax break a "tax increase" is like saying the restaurant has "raised its prices" when your Groupon discount has expired.

Third *: Who wants to be competitive? Back when the top tax rate was 91%, we were spending on the best highway system on the planet and foreigners were competing to come here.
