HuffPo: Martin Bashir's Chris Christie Comments: Fat Jokes?

MSNBC's Martin Bashir is being accused of making fat jokes about New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Bashir was commenting on Monday about the continued calls for Christie to enter the Republican presidential primary, and he said this:

MARTIN BASHIR: The real will-he-or-won't-he fervor is around the massively popular New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. While Christie has said he won't run, he hasn't exactly pushed away from the table and left the room. But if it's such a piece of cake to walk into the White House next year, why doesn't he do it? Or is it possible that President Obama won't be that easy to roll over?

Conservative media watchdog group Newsbusters had a bone to pick with Bashir over these comments. Though Bashir never did anything to suggest there was something underhanded in his comments, the site said there was "no doubting" that he was lampooning Christie's weight.

Christie thread comes up. Honestly, I've had to stop reading most DU discussion on him because of the disgusting vitriol directed at his size. You'd think we would be better than that; I'm sure there's plenty to attack in his actual political positions. Imagine if every Cain thread said nothing about his platform and devolved into a series of insults about black people.

Herman Cain was born with the skin he's currently wearing; it took a conscious effort on the part of Crispy Creme Christie to attain that prodigious girth. How can you possibly conflate the two characteristics? Are you trying to say that being born black and allowing oneself to become morbidly obese are even remotely similar?
