She's Baaaack... Martha Stewart Returns
She's Baaaack... Martha Stewart Returns to Her Board of Directors Seven Years After That Whole Insider Trading Thing

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkintheroad/2011/09/shes_baaaack_ma.php

Just seven-and-a-half years after resigning from the board of directors at her eponymous company, Martha Stewart has been reappointed. The resignation, of course, came after she was convicted of obstruction of justice in an insider trading case.

According to MarketWatch, the appointment was expected after Stewart returned to the company last year as its chief editorial, media, and content officer. Stewart had agreed to a five-year ban from running a publicly traded company as part of her settlement. Her return to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia's board is expected to have a positive effect on shareholder confidence.

Martha Stewart rejoins board of namesake company

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. /quotes/zigman/250056/quotes/nls/mso MSO -2.81% said its namesake and founder will rejoin the board, seven-and-a-half years after resigning in the wake of charges she obstructed justice and lied to investigators about a well-timed stock sale.

The appointment, which expands the board to include nine members, comes after Stewart rejoined the company last year as its chief editorial, media and content officer.

"Martha's participation is indispensable to shaping the company's future and creating value for our shareholders," said Charlotte Beers, chairman of the nominating and corporate governance committee. "Martha inspires all of us on the board, our company employees, shareholders and consumers as she continues to define the brand and help further build the company's foundation for the future."

Stewart's appointment was largely anticipated. The company in May said it expected Stewart to rejoin the board in the third quarter.

3. Good for her
Talk about your double standards. We had a president whose SEC went after this woman for a dinky trade while he himself had been guilty of the same thing on a much grander scale.

12. She was "brought down" just before a big democratic event she was going to host
It was political..all the way... and IIRC, the doctor involved basically had his medical breakthrough "stolen" from him in the process of the takedown.

The whole thing seemed very "sting-like" to me..

9. The fact that she was behind bars for lying about something that was never proven...
...and yet the REAL crooks on Wall Street still haven't even been properly investigated still irks me to this day...

13. Something about Martha's conviction has alway bothered me.
She sold her stock on a tip that the owner of the company's daughter sold 2 million shares of the stock. Now, the daughter was obviously tipped off by her father so why wasn't the daughter brought up on the same charges? She may have been and I just didn't see anything about it. Having 2 mil shares, the daughter must have benefited more than Martha from the tip.
