7. It would be funny as hell
if it wasn't so damned stupid.

I think they know that the border can be pretty much secured with non-fence things. They already use a lot of cameras and motion detectors that work really well in areas that don't receive a lot of traffic. Add to this the fact that Canada has an intact immigration and entry platform that isn't all that different from the one down here. It's not as authoritarian but it's basically similar to ours.

Add to that the fact that it's probably impossible to fence vast stretches of that border and even if it was possible the costs would be astounding with pretty much a zero payoff.

Personally I think it's just a PR stunt to shut the damned teabaggers up for awhile I'd be amazed if they actually tried to implement this. A repuke administration however would probably do it as soon as he/she found the company to build it based on their own stock portfolio.

9. That's harsh on the 1%

You wrote: "A repuke administration however would probably do it as soon as he/she found the company to build it based on their own stock portfolio."

That's harsh. They'd do it not just for their own investment portfolios, but for the benefit of the the investor class everywhere. The pols aren't getting a benefit not available to all, so how egalitarian can you get?

I find it gratifying to know that billionaire oligarchs and the homeless both have an equal right to buy derivative products through special arrangements with financiers, and can speculate in these financial products, just like everyone else.

It remains a mystery why homeless people don't make more use of these kind of arrangements.

:) don't be harsh on the 1%

12. I think you know the answer to that question.
The first thing fascists do is make it impossible
for the citizenry to leave.
They have already been hard at work on that through
all the midnight executive order signings and Homeland Security
tactics, not to mention some of the outrageous things
in the Patriotic Acts, 1 and 2.

10. My grandfather ran booze across the border in the 20's Then during the depression...
He became an illegal immigrant to the US. His bad, I would have much rather been born in Canada.

11. Stupid is a plentiful and renewable resource.
I begrudge even a wooden nickle spent on a stupid fence. More so, so when the TeaPubliKlans will demand an offset from the budget to pay for the nonsense.

13. Why do I need a passport to visit Canada?
I was planning to go north for vacation and found that my passport had expired and didn't go because I was told I needed it to cross the border northbound.

As a kid we went to Ontario most every year with no hassle.

18. I think it's a U.S re-entry issue
I don't think you need a passport to leave the U.S and get into Canada, you need it to return to the U.S, if that be your intention.

14. My grandmother and her 5 kids took the train across the border to steal jobs from Americanx.
In 1922. However, the "...land of the free and home of the brave" still wanted cheap labor but hadn't banned the laborers yet.

;-)

But aren't you happy to be spared the expense of putting up your own fence to keep the riffraff out?
