Bitter owner bomb scares home after foreclosure

Anger, horror, rage, resentment – emotions that are to be expected when the home you’ve put hard money into buying goes into foreclosure. With the mounting pile of foreclosures occuring all over the country, hearing stories of foreclosed and evicted homeowners trashing their house on the way out is, unfortunately, quite common. Most times, it’s just taking the appliances but stories get worse – copper pipes removed, concrete down the sink, spray paint on walls, etc. As reported on AOL Real Estate and covered by Seattle’s Komonews.com, one bitter homeowner in Seattle wasn’t interested in tearing up his house after the default notice arrived. Instead, he caused a bomb scare by booby-trapping his home.

The homeowner wasn’t at home, when the Seattle police, fire department, bomb squad, haz mat and SWAT team arrived to investigate and take precaution when suspicious materials were discovered at the South Seattle home. After evaluating the scene, the home was given the A-Ok. The powder at the property was a sugar mixture and none of the multiple propane tanks contained gas.


Lt. Greg Sackman said investigators found several propane tanks, most of them empty, and jerry-rigged fire extinguishers at the home at 3217 S. Edmunds St. “The way they were set up, it initially looked like somebody had placed them in a position that either something would go off if we tried to make entry or something like that,” said Sackman.

The 51 year old owner of the house is being deemed a suspect and still at large. But it looks like what he got the attention he was looking for.
