1. Not everyone posts for the "effect" it might cause.
Edited on Thu Sep-29-11 05:02 PM by Union Scribe
I know that wouldn't even occur to you, but it's true.

7. Because they're responding to something in a discussion forum?
Again, not everyone treats this place like their private twitter. Some people reply to threads first, rather than start them for each new thought. I know this entire concept is foreign to you.

9. I guess a better word for this question would have been "decide", rather than "say".

11. Bull
There is no cause/effect. They are tired of the crap. Campaigning is meaningless. We all know what each side stands for. Neither side is going to convince the other. Democrats are not going to vote Republican and vice versa. There is no such thing as an Independent. Whatever percentage of Independents have voted R or D in the past will continue to vote for R and D in those same percentages. Whatever percentage of Rs or Ds who have voted for third party candidates in the past will do the same this time 'round.

So, when Dems say they will vote for Obama but not campaign, what they are saying is that they will vote for Obama but not campaign. Nothing more. Nothing less. The issue will be one of GOTV, not campaigning or meetups or whatever.

16. that was a joke
but i have to disagree with you about the indies always voting the same way. that's why they call em swing voters.
i know more than a few people who vote differently almost every election. they seem to think that turn and turn about is a better way to do things.
also didn't obama when overwhelmingly in 2008 because the indies broke for him.

8. Three possibilities as I see it
#1 - They are hedging their bets. If Obama wins, they can claim they supported him with their vote. If he loses, they will say, see, that is why I didnt waste my time, I knew he wasnt going to win.

#2 - They are pouting and cutting off their noses to spite their faces. They didnt get everything they wanted and they know a Republican would be much worse, but they want to punish Obama even though losing an election wouldnt hurt him much but would hurt the rest of us a great deal.

#3 - They are genuinely oblivious to the differences between Obama and one of the losers running for the GOP nomination. They buy the 2000 Nader rhetoric that Democrats are the same as Republicans.

21. Being on anonymous website means there has to be more possibilities than that
Edited on Thu Sep-29-11 05:44 PM by NNN0LHI
I was ripping into Bush daily for years on FreeRepublic calling him a scumbag and laughing at the cretins over there for supporting such a loser. Know how I got away with it for so long? I ended every post with, "God Bless George Bush."

The comparable phrase over here at DU is, "I will vote for Obama but..."

See how easy that is?

I mentioned this one day in a thread here at DU about 8 years ago and someone must have seen my post because they started banning everyone who ended their posts with, "God Bless George Bush.", soon after that. Including me.

23. Good point. A better way of putting it is, three possibilities from various Democratic/Liberal/Progr
essive groups. The possibilities increase exponentially when you include Freepers and other infiltrators.

15. I'll guess:
It's to express disappointment in his performance (not campaign), but resign to the fact that he's the best option (vote). Was that really difficult?

17. I wonder what effect you expect from your OP.

My guess is that you want to contribute to the slamming of those you think will cause you to have a repuke president.

I never occurs to you that you and Obama may have some culpability here does it?

Get out of your ivory tower and take a look at the lives of the working class around you! They will vote for Obama because they know the alternative is worse. But they also know that their future has to be put in their own hands not a politician's.

I think a better investment would be to support physically and monetarily the Occupy Together movement because that's where your salvation lies!

22. That they think he is going to lose due to the lack of their campaigning
And that he and all of his defenders will be sorry when there is a Republican in the White House! To feel powerful by trying to get people to beg them to campaign.

29. People share information because information is power
If many people say that local and State elections will be taking all the 'campaign' they have to spare, that information, used wisely by the fervent Presidential election watcher might indicate a need to redouble the efforts of those who share that fervent focus. What I am saying to you is an actual answer. There will always be prioritizing in any cycle. This was a key element in the passage of Prop 8. People were very busy with making damn sure the Republicans walked, so others who still needed to focus on defeating 8 needed a much stronger push, just because many who would otherwise give it time and attention had other priorities and limited time, as we all do.
So information about what might be the mood can either be useful to you or not. The 'effect' is dependent not on the motive of the writer, but on the intention of you, the reader.
