This guy is (was) one of my Facebook friends. I saw what he wrote in response to someone posting the 'Tea Party on the Street Corner' picture. I'm glad some other friends continued the rebutal since I just had no energy left to straighten him out after the first few go rounds. He, as well as his wife, are career soldiers. Below are snippets from his brain:
- Any one who has a basic concept of economics knows that lowering taxes stimulates the economy - Lower corporate taxes means that corporations don't pass on their tax burden to the consumer through higher prices. Don't you realize that corporations DON'T pay their own taxes, but pass it on in the form of higher prices paid by the consumer - Give more of your own hard-earned money to progressive bureaucrats who have spent the past 100 years proving how inept they are at effectively spending money, and how truly effective they are at stomping out personal liberties to satisfy the desires of particular groups. - You aren't overpaid, and you're not in a union. You are a soldier just like me. You are just as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. You and I defend freedom and liberty while gov't waste, over-taxation and regulation are slowly destroying it - Would you care to take the time to tell me where my argument is flawed? (several people did take that time) - you have the right to be against the tea party. Fine. Can any of you give me a good explanation as to why the US Constitution isn't good enough for you, and do you understand that the Declaration of Independence says " That among these are life, liberty, and the PURSUIT (not guarantee) of happiness (or success)."? You have the opportunity to fail or succeed based upon your own efforts, not the efforts of others. No where in our constitution does it grant government the right to forcefully take the money of those who have and give it and give it to those who have not. Nowhere. - lower taxes means what? It means that you have more money in your pockets with which to consume things. - lower corporate taxes means that corporations can do two things: lower the prices on their products, and they can also hire more people; more people who can, in turn, consume things! - You've seen first-hand what our education system has become since the Feds got involved: The pinnacle of this madness is "no child left behind."... there are firm laws still in place which protect our workers. Unions, while having spurred for those standards' creation, now have become little more than their own income-redistribution systems: demanding more and more than their non-union counterparts and crying, even in this recession, when their demands aren't met. There is a reason unions are weaker: even their own membership is waking up and realizing that their demands are no longer sustainable in this economy. I am glad they are realizing this, and hope they take action to make their leadership get a bit more reasonable. - the Great Depression; glad you brought it up. FDR's own Treasury Secretary stated in 1937 that, seven years in and more money than ever before spent in the world's history, the country was no better off than they were in 1929 and they were in fact worse off. Have you heard of the great depression of 1921? The answer is most likely "no". There was a severe recession in 1921 and the government, because they did not know what to do, did nothing. The result: the country recovered in about two years. Our current President, when hearing of FDR's Treasury Secretary's above comments, replied, "Well, that's one man's opinion," If we do not learn from history then we are doomed to repeat it. - yes; big evil businesses wanting to make profit. Let me ask you a question: have you ever gone to a job to work for free? Ridiculous. Corporations are the entities that take all the risk in this thing called Free Enterprise, and they deserve to make profit. Profit allows new people to be hired, and innovative new products to be researched and developed. Get over this kick that the workers have all the risk. If you want higher pay then create your own company, invent your own product, and take some risk in your life! I know that there are safety risks on the job, but this isn't what I'm talking about and you know it! . . . There were a lot of comments back at him, but my favorite line was: - I'm surprised that you being a soldier...voicing a "cut gov't spending" opinion - being a GOV'T EMPLOYEE yourself. I'm also surprised you're voicing an anti-union opinion when the freedom to form unions is one of the very freedoms you "defend".
I unfriended him tonight. Along with 2 other people who have very similar beliefs. I don't go on Facebook to have my blood pressure go up.
