Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus continued inching ahead in the fourth ballot of the RNC chairman’s election, gaining four votes for a total of 58. His opponents were grouped closely far behind him: Veteran operative Maria Cino had 29 votes, incumbent Chairman Michael Steele and former Missouri GOP Chair Ann Wagner each had 28 votes, and Michigan Committeeman Saul Anuzis had 24 votes. There was one write-in vote that was ruled ineligible. It takes 85 votes to win.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele dropped his bid for reelection after the fourth round of voting in the RNC leadership race. Steele came in second on the first ballot but dropped to a tie for third place as the voting went on. In withdrawing, he told members: "At this time, I will step aside for others to lead. But in so doing, I hope you all appreciate the legacy we leave."
