Poll question: When Obama was campaigning to fight the war on terror but with sanity and legal oversight |
|
Some say Obama campaigned to vigorously fight the war in Afghanistan and elsewhere and he's just making good on that promise.
Others say that may be true but he also promised to put an end to the war on our rights and liberties as well.
Still others say he has been co-opted.
Yet, still other others say this was a legal kill because al Awlaki was waging war on the US and such are the fortunes of war.
Were we snookered?

1. wow. Brutal results so far |
|
I know people are a bit dismayed but I know it isn't universal. I've seen some DU'ers defend the Awlaki killing; I'd appreciate their input.

4. How is this killing any different from |
|
the killing of Usama bin Laden? People had been crying for his demise.

7. There is the point that al Awlaki was US born and a citizen |
|
That would seem to count in some regards.
To wage war against Japan would be one thing. To intern Japanese-American citizens solely on the authority of a single person would seem to be another.

8. You definitely have a point. I do remember |
|
(I am old enough) the Japanese/Americans held in camps during WW2. Even at that young age I never really understood it. I suppose we will always be damned if we do and damned if we don't.

3. He's first, and foremost, a politician. Being "tough on terror" plays well during campaign season. |

Killing bogeyman elicits cheers from the fearful.

5. I don't think the language used in the OP is soft enough. |

6. Polls are tricky to word |
|
If you're too strong people think you're trying to foist a strawman on their position.
If you're too soft they think you're giving the other guy a softball.
