Every child who arrives at the school door deserves a chance to sit down and engage

in learning with peers, free from fear. No school, no teachers, no administrators should be in the business of checking child or parents' immigration status. As a beginning teacher, our principal told us, "That's not our work. We won't do it. We have other priorities."

Alabama teachers/administrators need to "just say no." Welcoming children and families is fundamental to school success. The racist practices we're seeing with this stuff makes my blood boil!

1. What immediately comes to my mind is this excited child, full of

anticipation, excitement to start school. New friends, a whole new world for many, can't sleep at night for the joy of starting school. Meeting teacher, who in most cases, becomes one of the most important people in their young lives. This stuff makes me ill.

2. Educators should be protesting the War on Children by refusing to
