Taxpayers are currently giving billions upon billions of dollars in subsidies to corporations and businesses, all because we’ve been told that “if we give breaks to corporations, they will shower us with jobs, and grow the economy”. We give these breaks and subsidies, and we get cheering from the Repukes and, with the exception of the Wall St protesters, they are just accepted by the American people. It’s as if we’ve been conditioned to accept these tax-breaks and subsidies as “the cost of doing business”.
But, give Welfare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, Unemployment Benefits, Social Security or Pell Grants to the poor, homeless, unemployed in a down economy, elderly folks (who paid years of Social Security taxes), or a needy High School Senior…and the screams and howls from the “Tea-baggers” is deafening.
It’s always the same old crap; “they’re taking my tax dollars and giving it to someone else!” But in reality, what is Unemployment, Food Stamps or other benefits of our Social Safety net but a “subsidy”? That unemployed American spends his money at the local grocery store or retail shop, thereby “creating” jobs for the folks employed there. That elderly person spends their Social Security check on home repairs, transportation, food and clothing…”creating” jobs for Americans in those sectors. That poor family spends Food Stamps and Welfare at the grocery store, for rent, for utilities, and for transportation and services…”creating” jobs for Americans in those sectors.
I guess a simple question for the Repukes would be; “Why are tax-breaks and subsidies only good for the wealthiest”? "Why is it OK to give my tax dollars to a billionaire, but blasphemy to give them to the most needy Americans"?
In fact, I bet if you did a comprehensive study, you’d find that more jobs are created by the Social Safety Net, than are created by any tax-break to a corporation.
Why do Repukes hate the “job-creators”???
