Judge strikes S. Fla. prison privatization
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A judge has ruled the Legislature's plan for privatizing prisons in South Florida is unconstitutional.

Circuit Judge Jackie Fulford issued the decision Friday in Tallahassee.

She ruled that lawmakers erred by including the privatization plan in the state budget. Fulford wrote that if they wanted to privatize the 29 correctional facilities they should have passed a separate law.

The state is expected to appeal her ruling.

4. I'll never understand "private prisons"
If the state is going to strip you of your freedom and rights because you broke its laws, then only the state can imprison you. That's the way I see it.

Sticking you in a "private prison" is ridiculous! What if the inmates rebel (Attica?)? Who's going in with the firepower? The state or the corporation?

Sorry, investors will have to make money some other way besides imprisoning their fellow citizens...

One name for that is corporatism, but there's another one... let me think...

Starts with an F...
