'Broken penis': Karma for cheating husbands?
Sex outside marriage, and sex that occurs under out-of-the-norm circumstances, may increase the risk of penile fractures, said study researcher said Dr. Andrew Kramer, a urologist at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The heightened risk appears to be due to the unconventional situations, and consequently, locations, surrounding sexual acts, the researchers said. Men in the study who had suffered penis fractures commonly were having sex in unusual settings, including in restrooms or at work, when the injury occurred. The majority were having extramarital affairs.

*

While penile factures are rare occurrences, they may be underreported due to the potentially embarrassing circumstances surrounding the injury, Kramer said.

"If you're having acrobatic sex…you do have to be careful," Kramer said. "If you are doing something in a weird position or a weird situation…you do have to be careful of fracturing the penis."

5. Not sure its karma unless the man feels guilty. I'd say its more to do
with the "unusual settings" or "unusual partners" than karma.

27. Karma actually has nothing to do with guilt
it not like the western concept of sin. Karma is the collection of all action's intentions. There is good, neutral and negative karma.

outside of the marriage would result in the karma intended.

45. Karma is not linear - that's a western construct
Edited on Fri Sep-30-11 10:47 PM by FreeState
Karma is like a bucket of intentions that get splashed out, it's not do this and that will happen. (in the Buddhist tradition)

http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/thanissaro/karma.html

For the early Buddhists, karma was non-linear and complex. Other Indian schools believed that karma operated in a simple straight line, with actions from the past influencing the present, and present actions influencing the future. As a result, they saw little room for free will. Buddhists, however, saw that karma acts in multiple feedback loops, with the present moment being shaped both by past and by present actions; present actions shape not only the future but also the present. Furthermore, present actions need not be determined by past actions. In other words, there is free will, although its range is somewhat dictated by the past. The nature of this freedom is symbolized in an image used by the early Buddhists: flowing water. Sometimes the flow from the past is so strong that little can be done except to stand fast, but there are also times when the flow is gentle enough to be diverted in almost any direction.

So, instead of promoting resigned powerlessness, the early Buddhist notion of karma focused on the liberating potential of what the mind is doing with every moment. Who you are — what you come from — is not anywhere near as important as the mind's motives for what it is doing right now. Even though the past may account for many of the inequalities we see in life, our measure as human beings is not the hand we've been dealt, for that hand can change at any moment. We take our own measure by how well we play the hand we've got. If you're suffering, you try not to continue the unskillful mental habits that would keep that particular karmic feedback going. If you see that other people are suffering, and you're in a position to help, you focus not on their karmic past but your karmic opportunity in the present: Someday you may find yourself in the same predicament that they're in now, so here's your opportunity to act in the way you'd like them to act toward you when that day comes.

44. How do you break your nose during sex? When someone sits down on it too forcefully.
My understanding was that he had broken it before, (sports I think) and that the lady in question was clumsy in her passion.

7. I wouldn't have believed it possible, until it happened to someone I knew back in college.
He was getting a BJ from some co-ed in the back of a car and it "broke". Dude had to wear a cast on it for several weeks (this was back in the 80s). Never saw it myself, just going by what mutual friends told me about the treatment.

Poor guy went through years of being referred to as "Broke Dick Rick". LOL

A man being maimed for life is a laff-riot, and he 'deserved' it.

Meanwhile, many of the same posters are outraged that adult women are being 'hurt' and 'abused' by choosing to take their own clothes off in front of a camera.

47. I wonder what he would make of the fact that four percent
of breast cancer deaths occur in men. (This was several years back -- the statistics may have improved since then due to earlier diagnosis in men, most of whom wouldn't believe that lump and/or bleeding could possibly be breast cancer.)

The "wicked" concept fits right in with the fundies' belief that the rich shouldn't be taxed because God loved them enough to make them rich, and the poor shouldn't be helped because God is using poverty to punish them for something-or-other.

Karma. Pfah. Bad Karma is celebrating other peoples' misfortunes.

If they're cheating on their spouse, a reasonable 'punishment' is divorce. No one deserves to be physically maimed.

I would have been deeply disappointed in you. :hi:

Still, and here's the difference: the sex, sexuality, porn and nudity threads you're talking about ARE NOT ABOUT INJURY, temporary or permanent.

If people were laughing, chuckling, or talking enthusiastically about women getting HURT, then there would be a shitfit, and rightly so.

The problem is, apparently, for some people-- women having sex IS the same thing as women being injured, damaged, hurt or oppressed. That's the only explanation I can come up with that makes any sense.

68. Well, women have had unplanned pregnancies and/or contracted STDs
from extramarital affairs, so there can be some consequences (I don't think karma is the word, tho) to that activity. If a person makes that choice, there could be bad outcomes and so the male or female who chose the course of action can indeed suffer. This is why we try so hard to teach our kids about making "responsible choices" in life...

It's the polar opposite of "flexible", remember. Now, I've never broken mine, but there have been times where the compressive stress spiked rather abruptly. ;-)

Men can cramp up in the pelvic area, which is probably the "sprain" you're talking about. There's no muscle in the johnson, ergo no way to get a sprain.

65. Karma?
Did you miss where you also posted "sex that occurs out of the norm circumstances" etc?

I mean, I get that you hate men. Okay, no biggie. But don't be stupid about it. Agenda and all aside.

i don't get this question.

"I mean, I get that you hate men"

you would be wrong, but dont let that get in your way of making accusations.

74. Makes you wonder...
how much traction someone would get here if they posted an article reporting genital warts is karma for cheating women.

81. i told about the story of hubby getting caught in the zipper, and his mom had to undue
a painful and humiliating experience from his teen years. he is the one that will tell the story, .... and he laughs at the experience as we all wince at what he had to go thru. when he told me, all i could think is i hope, as a mom to two boys, that i will never have to deal with that one.

people may laugh at those experiences, but it is not really laughing at the person, i dont think.

i have not seen a lot of mean. i dont get the funniest damn thread, or laugh so loud hubby heard. not my type of humor.

i have thought of it every which way, and i cant come up with an excuse for it. but it is the few.

someone had a picture from wiki and it looks incredibly painful and awful.

the whole karma thing i thought stupid. when something isnt relevant i generally ignore. to me, that was a garbage headline title.

and this article just happened to be relevent to hubby and i the other night. i told him, i had never heard of such a thing. asked him, and he hadnt either. no more, no less.

80. Who cares who wrote it? You posted it
You think it's acceptable if someone parrots an article by Pat Robertson saying AIDS is karma (or whatever the Christers' equivalent) for teh gays?

Expressing outrage for misogyny while simultaneously repeating misandry makes for an interesting case of hypocrisy, no?

83. Has nothing to do with sexism
and everything to do with hypocrisy.

I'm probably not going to complain either way, unless someone starts applying two different standards.

86. Perhaps you are not aware, but we USAmericans have an absolute right to coopt,
distort, simplify, caricaturize, or plunder whatever religion, cosmology, philosophy, cuisine, art, language, fashion, or music that we choose. That's in the Constitution, or the Bible, or somewhere. Sorry...
