5. If she was deaf, how can she understand spoken language with her eyes covered?
Edited on Fri Sep-30-11 06:04 PM by pnwmom
I don't get it.

It's not lip reading, because she has her hands over her eyes when the person says "Can you hear me?" How does she know what those sounds mean?

8. It's the quality of her voice that got me

wondering (my husband listened too and thought the same thing). Our daughter and niece, about the same age as this woman, are both severely hearing impaired (not deaf, but use two hearing aids and lip read a lot). Even their voices are not that good--there is in general a very "hollow" sound to hearing-impaired or deaf people. (My daughter less so than my niece, but she still has speech problems with high frequency sounds). Her voice sounded way too normal.

But I reserve judgment. She looked truly overwhelmed. So I'm not doubting the veracity.

P.S. Not every deaf or hearing impaired person can benefit from this type of surgery at all.

9. she has had limited use of hearing aids in the past
I wondered the same thing, but the bio with the video explained about the hearing aids.
