26. Nice, BUT the peace symbol is missing a part: Lore has it that
the semaphore signals for N and D (for nuclear disarmament) combine to make the peace sign.

37. I think the artist is making a new statement
Here is a link to the flag signaling page.

http://www.anbg.gov.au/flags/semaphore.html

The upside down V = N as in NO

Flag UP and Flag Down to our right = V as in Violence

Also Flag UP and Flag Down to our left = K as in Killing

Could they be saying?
"NO Violence or Killing"

Just a thought

Peace to You and Yours

43. That was the original meaning, then it became a general
symbol for peace. I remember sitting next to a woman on a plane as I was on the way to basic training. She was wearing a "peace sign." I remember thinking that she is for nuclear disarmament. I was sympathetic to her cause. I remember thinking that I will be away from women for a long time, and I felt some regret.

50. That Version of the Peace Symbol
was used during the 60s, in fact it's the first I remember seeing. It's out of fashion, but I wouldn't call it incorrect.

52. I don't recall the inverted 'Y' being used as a peace symbol, and here
is one version of the history of the symbol:

Peace Symbol Created (1958):

http://history1900s.about.com/od/1950s/qt/peacesymbol.htm

"In 1958, British artist Gerald Holtom drew a circle with three lines inside, intending the design to be a symbol for the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War (DAC). The design incorporates a circle with the lines within it representing the simplified positions of two semaphore letters (the system of using flags to send information great distances, such as from ship to ship). The letters "N" and "D" were used to represent "nuclear disarmament." <more at link>

I'll admit this one could be viewed as an attack on the GOP, but I think it reflects how they "see" those they disagree with. Through gun sights.

As another poster pointed out, if a Freeper had designed that sign we would've been hooting with laughter and derision. From a graphical standpoint, it's a great big typo.

36. I am familiar with the superimposed signals for the N and the D. If
the same erroneous signage were to be made/carried by a 'teabagger', we would call them a 'moran', but we seem to think this sign is simply awesome.

Why is that?
