Ricky Gervais Makes Gay Scientologist Joke At Golden Globes (Incl.Vid That'll Prob. Be Pulled Soon)
Edited on Mon Jan-17-11 02:18 AM by Turborama
Ricky Gervais promised he wouldn't get invited back to host the Golden Globes, and in his opening monologue Sunday night he did his best to court controversy.

"Also not nominated was 'I Love You Philip Morris,' Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Two heterosexual characters pretending to be gay," he said. "So the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists, then."

When the crowd started booing gasping, Ricky hedged his words.

"Probably," he said. "My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke. They're not here."

When The Advocate recently asked Carrie Fisher whether John Travolta had legal reason to demand Gawker remove a post suggesting he's gay, she said, "Wow! I mean, my feeling about John has always been that we know and we don't care. Look, I'm sorry that he's uncomfortable with it, and that's all I can say. It only draws more attention to it when you make that kind of legal fuss. Just leave it be."

Video: Ricky Gervais’ Best Jokes From The Golden Globes
(This compliation doesn't contain the "best jokes", the clip above has some funnier ones. This doesn't work in Google Chrome for some reason. On edit, this was the original OP before I found the HuffPo article.)

Just as we'd hoped, Ricky Gervais's second turn as host of the Golden Globes brought the gleeful, uncomfortable-making evisceration of pretty much everybody in the Beverly Hilton Hotel tonight. For your viewing pleasure, we've collected Gervais's best, most stinging material all in one video. If you don't enjoy this, then you must be Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Charlie Sheen, Tim Allen, Sandra Bullock, Mel Gibson, the head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, God, or a closeted Scientologist. 4. That's the 1st time I've ever heard suggestions of Travolta being gay
I don't follow Hollywood gossip so it's a new one on me.

5. Who knows... rumours...
I think Travolta is a good guy. His life is his business. I have a bit less sympathy for Cruise, admittedly, since he comes off as a bit of an ass. Whatever rocks their boat, I guess...

And have misgivings about Cruise, too. Especially when he goes on rants about psychology.

I saw a really good BBC Panorama show about uncovering the secrets of Scientology on BBC World News last night. It was an update from John Sweeney.

There's an article about it and a clip here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front_page/newsid_9032000/9032278.stm

who was married to actor Kevin Gage from 1985 to 1987,and married Travolta in 1991 and who also had a relationship with George Clooney, who gave her Max, a pet pig that he kept after the couple split up,and was briefly engaged to Charlie Sheen in 1990, which she relationship she ended shortly after he accidentally shot her in the arm?

12. Well you know guys kissing guys without having a sexual relationship is just not that uncommon these

days. Hell I kiss by BIL on the mouth and hug him too.

It's called affection, something invented by the French I heard
tell.

13. Well, it's not all that common here and that's why the picture made the cover.
I don't know that I've seen 2 straight males kiss on the mouth in person. It may be common where you are, but it's not everywhere. I'm not weirded out by it or anything, just haven't seen it.

7. Ricky is not about to be outdone by Russell Brand. Gervais has a reputation for going over the line

He's very clever at it. His cartoon show is a scream.
He gets away with murder on that.

20. I assumed he was talking about Tom Cruise. There have been rumors of his being gay forever. South
Park did a bit on the subject, and I thought Cruise tried to stop it. Travolta never entered my mind as the one Gervais was talking about.
