Facebook gives apps access to addresses and phone numbers

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Facebook is giving app developers access to some of the most sensitive personal data it possess: Members' addresses and phone numbers.

The company slipped the change in quietly, announcing it late last week in a post on its developer blog.

Facebook members will need to explicitly grant permission for apps to tap into their contact information. And they'll only be able to grant that permission for their own data -- users can't choose to allow access to their friends' contact information.

But that may not be enough of a shield. Facebook frequently comes under fire for its constantly changing privacy policies, and many users find the tools it makes available for adjusting privacy settings very confusing.

then there's the matter of people's dirty laundry being posted.

Family fights.

People bragging about how drunk they got Saturday night and how shitty they feel Sunday afternoon when they finally get out of bed at 3 PM.

Where they're going and what time they're leaving the house and how long they'll be gone (might as well just send out fliers inviting someone to rob them).

And more craziness.

I'm just a spectator to most of it....

5. Facebook doesn't even give you an option to put your address

It lets you put down your cell # in your Contact Info section, but not your address.

I've seen people forget it's a relatively public venue and actually put their address on postings to their "walls".

If someone has their security so that "everyone" or "friends of friends" can see what they post, then that's not good....

Investors want some kind of value for their money.

The pressure to mine and sell membership data will increase by orders of magnitude.
