Perry says he was just kidding in questioning President Obama's citizenship ...

Perry says he was only kidding in questioning Obama's citizenship . . .

Speaking to a political television program in Florida today, Gov. Rick Perry walked back his recent flirtation with the "birther" movement and announced his opposition to confederate license plates.

Perry made the comments in an interview to Political Connections, a Florida television program put on by Bay News 9 and The St. Petersburg Times, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Perry told the news program that he has no doubt that President Barack Obama is a US citizen and explained that he was only kidding when he made remarks recently suggesting he was not completely convinced that Obama was born in the United States.:eyes:

1. Right, Perry, and we have a bridge to sell you if you think we believe you.
Schmuck. I do hope he becomes the candidate however- would be such fun to watch him debate Obama.

2. Remember when the media would hammer someone even harder for 'walking back'?
and the whole "I was just joking" was never accepted as an excuse? But now it's so commonly accepted these days people can say anything with no reprocussion at all...

6. he was trying to be cute with the issue when asked
. . . but he certainly wasn't 'kidding'.

He was trying out one of his party's dog whistles . . .

3. What a jokester.
First the "niggerhead" ranch and now this. The fun never stops in the Perry campaign and by fun I mean racism.

4. Tell Perry this is not a joking matter. The more Presidential thing
would have been to close down the discussion immediately.

7. almost every move he's made as a candidate
. . . has been an appeal to the lowest common denominator. He's calculating that Americans are ravenous enough to eat the tripe up.

5. Just kidding *wink* *wink*
That's well played. You throw the nuts a bone, which they eat up, of course. Then you can laugh and say you're just kidding to the rest of the sane world and look "folksy". So the nuts now know he's one of them, but when he's call on it then it's "Lighten up, Francis. It was a joke! You liberals have no sense of humor!" Republican politics is so easy even Rick Perry can do it.

9. Right. and which will get the bigger coverage by the press?
cement head perry, aside from being a greedy opportunist, now is a disingenuous prick.

Not surprising, really, it's just odd it took him this long to reveal that.

10. And Cain was just joking about electrifying a wall on the southern border.
Is this becoming the standard repub tactic when they put their foot in their mouth? "I was just kidding...." ;)

11. The GOP will not make an issue of Perry 'joking'. They didn't hold Cain responsible
The GOP will not make an issue of Perry 'joking' about the birther issue. They didn't hold Cain responsible for his 'jokes' about an electrocution fence along the border. You would think that someone would take issue with the nomination candidates lying. Basically, where the GOP party politics are concerned, the base are just a bunch of guard dogs who wait for Fox News to tell them when & how to feel anything about republicans, juxtaposed with how bloodthursty they are when thrown democratic meat.
