KHOUHouston region stands to gain big after change in US-Cuba policy

HOUSTON -- Houston, Harris County and much of Southeast Texas stand to gain big after President Barack Obama eased restrictions on Americans who hoped to travel to Cuba or engage in trade with the Communist nation.
On Friday, the president lifted many of the restrictions put in place by former President George W. Bush.
As early as February, academic and religious groups will be able to travel to Cuba.
Americans will also be able to send money to any Cuban citizen. And, some international airports will begin to offer charter flights.
Mark Jones, professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at Rice University, said the changes opened the door for an increase in trade between Texas and Cuba.
