TDS: Brokaw just reframed the 1%.
Suddenly the 1% are the patriots who have been fighting America's wars while the 99% stayed home like gutless slackers.

2. And I suspect him of being total CIA.
Though he will go on and on about how "kuhl" he was back in the sixties, when he hung out with the hipsters in the park on weekends.

Whenever I see him, I recoil with that "narc" radar blasting away at my neurons.

He was the guy who showed up at the parties that made you not wanna smoke when someone started passing the bong.

3. Loved his solution
where he has corporations fund with taxes, training for young people doing public service. Yes - Monsanto can teach us about - what?

6. He just spit in the face of all those Americans who served this country
The 1% are the ones who in times of the draft had deferments or sat on some cushy national guard desk (bu$h) while the rest had to server on the front lines. Now the 1% just don't even have to sign up.

:wtf: His true colors show from time to time, yet people still think they like the tool.

8. I've long lost respect for Brokaw as any kind of
journalist with integrity. He is more of a propagandist.

10. To be fair to Brokaw
His use of "1%" to describe the military contributions and sacrifices was written pre-Occupy movement. He couldn't have known the ways that the terms "99%/1%' would evolve within political discourse.

That being said, it is perfectly fair to critique his take that the military is responsible for all that is good in America. Personally, I think his thesis is BS.

13. What the hell? The 1% got deferments! The majority of those in wars are the
middle and lower classes that cannot get out of a draft or who volunteer because of a need for a job.

15. Cannot recommend enough. This was a most dismal week for TV viewing -
Jon Stewart had Pig Brokaw on one night, and Condie Rice another, with Letterman also featuring Condie Rice.

:puke: All this brought to us by the higher powers of Hurl TV!

16. OMG. I had to read that TWICE.
My brain read that as the 99% are the patriots and the 1% satyed home like gutless slackers. I started reading the comments and thought "what did I just read?"
Upon rereading what Mr. GENBC Corporate Media Whore had to say, I had to simply say, WTF!

17. Brokaw wrote this before OWS. The 1% he is referring to is
the 1% that are our volunteer military (you can look at it as 1% of the 99%). He was not trying to redefine the 1% in regard to OWS. It's another 1% reference to an entirely different group.
His other idea about public service acadamies partnering with the "private sector" is another matter that has a creep factor.

18. He damn well was redefining.
To use those hot button phrases in that way at this time ON THE DAILY SHOW?????

But I'm sure he is too insular and naive to understand what he did.

Yeah. That's the ticket.

20. Um you have your way of hearing it and I have mine.
I will restate it...
Stewart was quick to mention that the book was written before the OWS movement. I was clarifying what they clarified when discussing the 1% they were referring to. That is not an opinion.

22. Uh huh. But the interview was last night.
Maybe I missed him saying "There's another one percent that isn't getting any of the privileges and perks of the Occupy Wall Street one percent. This is the one percent that fights the wars of the other one percent."

Did I miss that diaalog?
