OWS - I've seen several claims of crimes such as rape, but has there
been any solid follow-up to any of these charges?

2. Another.
I do not think this guy was associated with the movement, but it sucks that that this can happen on a lawn in front of City Hall. I would ask where the police were, but from what I have seen, the campers don't want police (or the media) there.

3. Did you read the article you linked to?
A runaway 14 year old lied about her age and had consensual sex with an older man. Not exactly the same as a woman violated against her will on the lawn in front of City Hall while OWSers stand around and do nothing -- as implied in your OP. :eyes:

4. Statutory rape it is, but the law makes no distinction there if it landed in court.
It may not be in the form that we think it is with a man forcing himself on a woman against her will, but sex with a minor falls under statutory rape laws.

5. Agreed --
Legally. I was addressing the poster's implications about a consensual sex act.

6. Not true....OccupyDallas has a very open dialogue with the police
They have even reported suspicious characters in the camp to the Dallas PD who they have felt were a potential threat to other Occupiers or the movement overall. At least once they have had a police rep come to the GA for interaction with the Occupiers. I believe a police officer was due to speak tonight at GA, also. It's a follow up visit to people from the OD camp calling CPS on a family who had their 9 month old at camp. Occupiers were worried about the baby in the 30 degree weather we are now having and the baby spent most of the night crying. CPS came yesterday or today and removed the baby from the environment.
The "rape" that is being reported at OD was a 14 yr old runaway who presented herself as a 19 year old. I believe it was actually someone from the camp who notified local officials when someone recognized her as pics of her had been posted downtown. Once the incident came to light, OD occupants then initiated their own new laws in which there is a 10 pm curfew..and anyone in the camp after that time is subject to getting their ID checked by Occupy security team.

Again, OD has been very good about keeping the line of communication with Dallas PD open. But that doesn't mean that they will not hold the DPD accountable for any questionable behavior. As I had written in another post, Occupiers were noticing some people showing up at camp with homemade weapons and potentially dangerous characteristics/intent...they talked to several of these people, only to be told by the "visitors" (individually spoke with, not as a group of them)...all repeated the same scenario: Dallas PD, mass trans patrol officers, or county jail officials had SENT these people TO the OD camp, telling them that they could find food and shelter there. Occupiers then wrote an open letter to local law enforcement, telling them to stop it. Once the letter hit the media, Dallas Police hightailed a representative to the camp (within hours of the letter hitting the media) to open a dialogue, promising to send the informration/concerns up the chain of command.

OH, and far as not wanting the MEDIA there??? Tell me that you are not referring to our local FOX channel showing up at the camp at ********5 am********* with a full crew AND flood lights, shining the lights directly on the tents, ignoring the Occupiers who were requesting that the light beam be turned OFF?????? Fuck, if they needed a light on the damn reporter, fine, but a A BANK OF FLOOD LIGHTS lighting up the whole camp at 5 am??? One individual came over and asked them to turn the light off and the Fox crew guy got all smarmy saying: "you want your message sent out, don't you, this is how you get your message out".

I'll look for the video and post it in a new thread....pretty funny about a minute in when the Occupier literally comes and turns the FOX lights OUT by unplugging them and the FOX bimbo is left in the dark!! It was caught on raw video.
