* Credit unions say business up about five-fold

* Bank of America fee change came too late - protester

* Campaign coincides with Occupy Wall Street movement

By Michelle Nichols

NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of Americans are closing bank accounts and moving their money to credit unions in a Facebook campaign that has gathered momentum from anti-Wall Street protests, an industry group says.

The month-long campaign started by Los Angeles gallery owner Kristen Christian, 27, will culminate on Saturday with Bank Transfer Day. Some credit unions say they are already seeing five times their normal daily new account business.

The Banks haven't stopped this yet - wonder if they will try? Great news!

1. As a customer of a Credit Union...
I can say from first hand experience how busy they have become of the last couple of weeks. I asked the teller what the deal was and she said, "oh, the high bank fees" and that their board of directors came around to each branch to ensure all employees they "will not charge any new fees/raise fees at all". So happy, but a little disheartened when I told her it's because of the 99% and she looked at me completely baffled.

I told her we are all part of the 99% :)

3. Most CU employees know exactly what's going on.
Had a discussion with the mortgage lady at my CU the other day. She brought it up.

4. A credit Union member
We have accounts at the rguular bank and the credit union at work.

I have always gotten my car loans at the credit union - better rates.

the people at the credit union work to make banking there cheeper

The people on the credit union board of directors are people I work with.
They work for the people
If we don't like something we can always vote them out in the next election
(but I have never had to vote against anyone - just for the people who do a good job)

Now, credit unions can offer their services to people outside the company who sponsors them.
I see the same service I always have.
You can benefit from a credit union that employs people who are there to give you a better deal

It's worth the effort to check into your local credit union

Signed,

A satisfied customer

6. In the process of swapping my checking account from WF to a CU
Opened the CU checking account and the teller asked me how old I was.. I was thinking "WTF kind of question is that??", but I answered 56 and she said "Your checks are free". I knew then I had made the right decision to move my accounts lol.
