7. I have to say that I've been wondering if they are really cops
I'm sure some of them are, but with cities having such financial difficulties these days, where are they getting funds to pay all these "cops"?

12. I was there last night.
I saw the cop cars, paddy wagons and buses. They came from all over the Bay Area but seemed to be mostly from East Bay cities. I even saw cruisers from the East Bay Regional Park Police, if you could believe such a thing. And, I saw a total waste of manpower and resources: some of the cruisers came from Richmond. Richmond has a high enough crime rate. Was it really necessary to remove officers from Richmond for this?

Edited on Fri Nov-04-11 11:21 AM by KamaAina
Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, who is a Green Party member (Richmond is the largest city in the country with a Green mayor), led a convoy of people down San Pablo Ave. to Oakland Wednesday in support of the Occupiers/strikers.

So why is her police department helping the pigs? Blah blah blah mutual aid blah blah blah. She could cancel that agreement in a heartbeat if she wanted to.

21. And that proves they intend to break the law. Only criminals
have to worry about people knowing who they are as they go about their criminal behavior.

OWS should start following them back to their lairs and photograph them when they are in street clothes after getting back from attacking the American people.

When did these storm-trooper outfits become acceptable for civilian police forces? Did the people have a say in any of this, turning the police departments into military operations against the American people?

It was because it wasn't just St Paul PD but also PD from all over the country, Secret SErvice, DEA agents, Homeland Security, National Guard.. etc.

24. Everything that's happened with Occupy is stuff they tried out on us
in St. Paul first. People seem surprised to see pictures of cops lining the streets dressed in ninja suits with no name tags, using tear gas and smoke grenades without provocation, using horses to push people, using bulldozers and snow plows to stop people moving, etc. but it all looks very familiar to me.

26. It doesn't surprise me in the least.
My daughter and her fiance were also protesters in St. Paul at RNC 2008. He was tasered very badly (caught on video) and both of them were held in jail on bogus charges for several days. Later they sued the city of St. Paul but ended up settling out of court. Both are still activists and deeply involved in Occupy Oakland.

Link to my daughter's blog: http://www.wildandserene.blogspot.com

Her most recent post, "Sundown at the Port" is just beautiful, if I do say so myself.

56. the Longshoremens Union
Went on strike during the Bush years. Bush invoked "national security" to break the strike, and similar tactics including rubber bullets and beating were employed against the strikers. Apparently this is par for the course for the Oakland police. If anyone remembers this with more clarity, please elaborate.
