In the ongoing War on Women, it's hard for a member of the political He Man Woman Haters Club to distinguish himself above other the suit wearers with side parted hair who think they know what's best for women. That's why Virginia Delegate Dick Black is special.

Black really goes above and beyond by advocating outlawing abortion in all cases, even to preserve the life of the mother, sending tiny plastic fetuses to pro choice Virginia lawmakers, advocating for "conscience laws" that allow pharmacists to use "morals" as justification for not dispensing birth control to adult women (also known as using "non-science" as an excuse for "not doing their jobs"). Black hates birth control so much that in 2004, he referred to birth control as "baby pesticides," which is accurate because nothing gets rid of babies that won't stay away from your tomato plants like a dusting of Yaz.

The "nightie= get out of rape free card" quote actually came from a speech Black made during a legislative debate in 2002, but his legislative opponent has brought it to light again in a new ad. Black said,

"I don't know how on earth you could validly get a conviction in a husband-wife rape when they're living together, sleeping in the same bed, she's in a nightie and so forth. There's no injury, there's no separation, or anything."

My wife and I have been married for about 22 years ... We met at work. Well, at a party of work folks really. We were not working in the same area.

We started to date. And then ... some one began to leave a single rose on her car in the parking lot. Sometimes with a note.

Scared the crap out of her.

One of her friends came to me and said ... are YOU doing it??

I was blown away ... but it was a fair question. But it was not me.

One night, I was at her apartment, and she got a call claiming to be from the apartment complex manager where she lived ... they thought some one had tried to break into her car ... and that she should come out and check. So I went out to her car. And there was this guy standing there. When he realized that I was coming over to him (not her), he ran. I did not see him clearly.

It turned out that one of the security guards at the company was doing it.

She was working late one night and he just showed up in her office. Asked if she was ok, said he'd protect her. She told him she was fine. And then he said that he was the one leaving the roses and the notes. He said that when she was ready to leave, he'd walk her down to her car.

She said "great" ... and then said she need to finish some thing, and that she'd be done in about 30 minutes.

He said OK, I have some other areas to check, and I'll come back.

As soon as he left, she called me, and I raced over. And so when he returned to her office, I was already there.

She (being too nice a person) did not want him to get fired. But when the management confronted him, he explained how he did the roses, the notes, how he would go to her appartment and "make sure she was ok" ... dude was nuts.

And as crazy as THAT story is ... my wife has had many others in the last 20 years.

Guys that know she is married hitting on her ... married guys hitting on her. And yes, married guys UP THE MANAGEMENT chain hitting on her.

And I have to give her credit, she has yet to kill one of them.

She's navigated the shark pool over and over, and yet, she knows she does not make what her male counterparts make.

But she fights on. And my respect for her does nothing but increase.

She has every reason to hate men, but she doesn't.

new husband joined the wife's extended family at marriage and went back to his own people if/when she divorced him.

Tracing family through matriarchy gets rid of all the nonsense about preserving the "chastity" of the bride or wife because in a matriarchy, it doesn't matter much who provides the sperm.
