Asking an Oakland PD officer why he's hidden his badge

This how to properly engage with police when they do suspicious things. We were riding by on bikes and noticed hes hiding his name and has no badge number. SO we decided to ask him. He did not answer, we asked a ranking officer is that policy? The LT. quickly went about fixing his attitude. This is a common practice among cops at occupy's around the US .That way he/she cannot be named or referenced if he participates in police miss-conduct . Its in most police departments policies that all officers in uniform must show some form of identification. OPD does not wear badges with #'s, how do we hold anyone accountable?

Alfonso Bedoya

Mexican character actor who achieved his greatest success in U.S. films. He was born in a tiny village in Mexico and he had a nomadic upbringing, living in numerous places throughout the country including, for a time, Mexico City. He received a private education in Houston, Texas as a teenager, but dropped out and roamed about doing an assortment of jobs. His family, however, brought him back to Mexico City, where he subsequently found work in the struggling Mexican film industry. He appeared in many Mexican films before director John Huston offered him the role of Gold Hat in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). Bedoya stole the scenes in which he appeared as the smiling cutthroat and delivered the famous line about not needing any "stinking badges". He made a number of popular films in the U.S. in the next nine years, but a drinking problem destroyed his health. He died at the age of 53.

5. Never ever talk to a cop . If you do make sure....

you have an attorney present. Here in Englewood Colorado the city council use the cops to intimidate you to shut you up at council meetings. Council gives you only three minutes to speak your piece (used to be 5 min,). If they don't like what you're saying or you run over they shut the mic off. If you keep trying to speak a cop will approach you and then if you get pissed and leave they will follow you to your car.

7. Is it a law or just a policy to have to show your badge/name in CA?

I saw something posted...

in either case, if they are not complying with the law or with police policy then they should not be on duty. Especially when the reason for them covering up their identity is both obvious and nefarious.

Asking this very question got me arrested.
There was no charge other than "resisting arrest".

I've implemented a practice of looking for a name badge the second I hand over my ID. But if it's nowhere to be found, then I don't ask.

After spending thousands of dollars on a lawyer, the whole thing was supposedly dropped and erased from my record.

Of course they seem to still know I've had a past arrest somehow. At least in the state where it happened.

16. Since the 1960s (at least) it's been standard police procedure to...

remove or cover names and badge numbers whenever they go out on the streets with complete intentions to break the law and assault people. If you see a cop with his ID concealed, you know he plans to commit criminal actions. Note that when I say "standard police procedure," I obviously don't mean a formal policy--it's unspoken, like the code of silence.

19. What's to say the cop isn't a fake?

When a "cop" doesn't display a badge, you might as well assume he or she is impersonating a police officer. You do not have to obey--in fact, you're better off defying--orders from a fake cop.
