(Michigan) Senate passes ‘license to bully’ legislation

Advocates for a law to prohibit bullying and provide school districts with the tools to address the problem were dealt a stinging rebuke Wednesday morning in the Republican-controlled Michigan Senate.

The GOP pushed through an amended bill, SB 137, which does nothing advocates have pushed for — including reporting requirements and enumeration, or listing, of protected classes. In addition, the legislation provides an exception which allows bullying based on “moral convictions.”

The full language of the insert is: “This section does not prohibit a statement of a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction of a school employee, school volunteer, pupil, or a pupil and parent or guardian.”

“You may be able to pat yourselves on the back today and say that you did something, but in actuality you are explicitly outlining how to get away with bullying,” she said. “Your exceptions have swallowed the rule. As passed today, bullying kids is OK if a student, parent

4. The law says ANY sincerely held belief, not just the ones they APPROVE of.
It's my sincerely held moral belief that sexual harassment should meet with an instantaneous death sentence by disembowelment.

It is my sincerely held religious belief that God never, never, NEVER tells any human to exert power over another human. The voices in people's heads who tell them they deserve power over others are ALWAYS SATAN, and must be driven out with whips and scourges.

It is my sincerely held religious belief that St. Paul was sent as an agent provocateur by Satan to corrupt Jesus and his message, and to a large degree he succeeded.

Should I move to Michigan?

11. A lot of people suffered have suffered throughout the ages
because a bunch gullible people were, and still are, deceived into believing that the words of Paul are the immutable and unquestionable Word of God. There is no record anywhere of Jesus Christ ever saying a single word about GLBT's. Not surprisingly, in 2011 America, the persecution of LGBT's has become the single primary objective of the multitudes of followers of Paul that for some odd reason consider themselves, and are often referred to, as Christians.

Carl Sagan
"My long-time view about Christianity is that it represents an amalgam of two seemingly
immiscible parts--the religion of Jesus and the religion of Paul. Thomas Jefferson attempted to
excise the Pauline parts of the New Testament. There wasn't much left when he was done, but it
was an inspiring document."

Thomas Jefferson
"Paul was the first corrupter of the doctrines of Jesus."

Albert Schweitzer
"Where possible Paul avoids quoting the teaching of Jesus, in fact even mentioning it. If we had
to rely on Paul, we should not know that Jesus taught in parables, had delivered the sermon on
the mount, and had taught His disciples the 'Our Father.' Even where they are specially
relevant, Paul passes over the words of the Lord."

Will Durant
"Paul created a theology of which none but the vaguest warrants can be found in the words of
Christ."

"Fundamentalism is the triumph of Paul over Christ."

Paulism kills.

10. Next they can team up with KS and make it illegal to be gay there too. The republicans
are sooooo damn backward. Most republicans are bigoted bullies, so it's easy to see why they would do this.
