In Nassau, control of the county Legislature remained in doubt as Democrats tried to cut into Republicans' 11-8 advantage. Democrats pulled off an upset in one key race, but other races were too close to call.
With almost 90 percent of precincts reporting, Bellone had 56 percent of the vote, to Carpenter's 43 percent.

In a hotly contested Nassau County Legislature race, early results showed that Democrat Carrie Solages beat Republican incumbent John Ciotti in the 3rd Legislative District. Solages was not ready to say he won. But he said they were "very close."
