SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich said at the Republican presidential debate here Saturday night that they would be willing to go to war to keep Iran from attaining nuclear weapons if all other strategies failed.

Romney said that if "crippling sanctions" and other strategies fail, military action would be on the table because it is "unacceptable" for Iran to become a nuclear power.

Gingrich agreed, saying that if "maximum covert operations" and other strategies failed there would be no other choice. First, though, the United States consider "taking out their scientists," and "breaking up their systems, all of it covertly, all of it deniable," Gingrich said.

"If we re-elect Barack Obama, Iran will have a nuclear weapon. And if you elect Mitt Romney, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon," said Romney.

7. Yeah, I can just see all the veterans returning from Iraq
being re-re-re-re-redeployed to Iran. That will go over really well.

8. If we attack Iran, China and Russia just might make their presents felt right here in this country,

by eliminating parts of it. That would put a crimp in our own war mongering, causing an upsurge in world peace.

We can't even take on a couple of stone age countries and come out on top. What does anyone think will happen with China and Russia ganging up on us,U.S.?

9. They would have to do that with nuclear weapons
And I find it unlikely they would launch them over Iran. By 'unlikely' I mean 'absolutely zero chance of that happening.'
