Romney has clear lead among Republicans: poll

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Mitt Romney has a growing lead in the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, and almost half of the party's voters expect him to be the nominee, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Twenty-eight percent of Republicans backed the former Massachusetts governor, giving him a lead of 8 percentage points over his nearest challenger Herman Cain in the poll, taken November 10-11.

Romney was 5 percentage points ahead in a survey November 7-8.

Newt Gingrich, the U.S. House of Representatives speaker in the mid-1990s, solidified a recent rise among conservatives seeking an alternative to the more moderate Romney, coming in third place in the current poll with 16 percent.

3. Romney is a loser

I said in 2008 to a fundie I know that I'd never vote for Romney for one reason: He is a Mormon and I don't vote for Mormons. Period.

I hope that Romney, ill-prepared fool that he is, knows who is is going up against.

I suspect the Pres. Obama will be re-elected easily. He has my vote. :thumbsup:

5. Mitt has a lot of baggage

There a lot of clips from the last time he ran in 2008 that can be used, like the dog, his lie about marching with King, his other lie about being a life time hunter even though with the truth came out he had never bought a hunting license, never owned a gun, and finally had to admit the only thing he had hunted was "rats" in a local dump! That and all his flip flopping, his record of buying companies, laying off workers, sending jobs overseas, and making millions while those who lost their jobs because of him suffered!

As for his religion, well the so called "real" christian right is not going to be happy with him at all, and many will simply "not" vote. Others may even vote for Obama because they don't want to see him in the WH for the next 4-8 years. Tea party clowns may even run a candidate of their own as an independent. As someone posted here earlier, and I agree, I don't think the republicans really want to win the WH because they have NO PLAN at all on how to fix things. My opinion is they want to try and keep control of the house, and maybe pick up more seats in the senate so they can continue blocking anything president Obama tries to do to fix the mess we are in. They will wait it out till 2016 and hope democrats don't have a candidate that can win, and they think that as long as they can keep on killing the economy, they can win, even though I really think the american people, at least the majority, will see through their BS!

4. "Accepted the fact" = No Enthusiasm = Obama Victory

For decades in between condemning gays and abortion, religious right leaders from the big names on down to pastors of backwoods little churches have told their followers that Mormonism is a cult (it is). The big names are going to start lining up behind Romney if he does become the nominee, but they will face an inertia in getting their flocks to show any enthusiasm in voting, getting others out to vote, etc. for him. Combine that with how phony he comes across and can't make a connection with people, and I'm looking forward to the election.

6. Is that a good sign for Romney?

It doesn't sound like Republicans are enthused about him, but resigned to the idea that Romney will be the one. Considering the fact that there's now been a string of failed non-Romneys playing musical chairs up to this point, I'm surprised that not even a majority of Republicans see the writing on the wall. More than half of them are still waiting for a savior.

12. There are a million reasons to go after Romney but his religion is not one of them

I've lived in Utah all my life. I know Mormons and I'm no fan. But it is not more odd than transubstantiation, talking in tongues, virgin births, the supernatural. And don't even get me started on religious laws in Switzerland!

As in all religions, there are good Mormons and bad Mormons and the vast majority of them are that way because of the way they were raised. If I'd been born into a Mormon family the odds are I'd be Mormon.

While Mitt is the least scary of the contenders to me (Huntsman is not a contender) he still scares me because I think we will have to prove his conservative crazy while in office. His views didn't change, his party did (same with Huntsman). The GOP used to have a place for the Gov. Mitt. Not anymore. And if he wins, he'll want to be reelected and to be reelected he'll but crazies on the court and do other crazy shit to show he's a true conservative.

(There is this place in Burma where the King converted to Buddhism but "real" Buddhists did not think he was a true believer so he built 4,400 Buddhist temples in an area the size of Manhattan to prove them wrong. That will be Mitt's role if elected. No, he won't build temples, he'll torture, and try to outlaw gay marriage, and abortion and start a war with Iran.)
