4. Bush also claimed the same thing as Cain is doing now. These people are doing 1 of 2 things:
- Psychologically damaged with delusions of grandeur and entitlement, who truly have deep beliefs that they are "chosen ones", special, etc.

- Or there is some kind of republican handbook which informs candidates to "claim that God has picked them...".

Most of the republican candidates misuse religion to elevate their chances in one way or another.

19. I wouldn't say they are misusing religion
The purpose of organized religion is control of the masses. Religion has been used for political purposes for as long as it's been around. I'd say they are using religion for exactly the purpose for which it is intended.

"Religious factions will go on imposing their will on others unless the decent people connected to them recognize that religion has no place in public policy."

13. Guess Gawd loves a good street fight
going from one douchenozzle to the next, whispering in their ears. Must be as popular in heaven as 'professional' wrestling is here on earth.

7. They all think they were
Just some of them are savvy enough not to broadcast this belief that they're the chosen one.

9. You talk to God, it's prayer; God talks to you, it's schizophrenia . . .
Unless, of course, you're a Republican, in which case it's all part of the job application process.

15. Bloomberg even gives us a nice graphic for the answer:

Yesterday, in remarks she delivered at North Greenville University in South Carolina, Rick Perry's wife, Anita Perry, explained how God had called her husband to run for president and is now testing Perry with a campaign in which the Texas governor is besieged by Republican rivals.
...
According to Karen Santorum, Rick Santorum's wife, he, too, was called. "It really boils down to God's will," she said. "We have prayed a lot about this decision, and we believe with all our hearts that this is what God wants."

Michele Bachmann has said she regularly receives "assurance" from God about her direction, including running for office.

Frontrunner-of-the-Week Herman Cain has said that God pretty much insisted that the former pizza executive campaign for the White House. Cain, however, expressing a humility not much in evidence among the chosen few, does allow that it's not a dead certainty that God's plan includes a President Cain. "Whether that is ultimately to become the president of the United States or not, I don't know," he said. "I just know at this point I am following God's plan."

20. I talked to God last night
He didn't say anything about Herman Cain.

However, he was amused that the "party of personal responsibility" blames everyone EXCEPT Herman Cain for Herman Cain's problems.
