Nuns Who Won’t Stop Nudging-Surprising group of corporate activists
NOT long ago, an unusual visitor arrived at the sleek headquarters of Goldman Sachs in Lower Manhattan.

It wasn’t some C.E.O., or a pol from Athens or Washington, or even a sign-waving occupier from Zuccotti Park.

It was Sister Nora Nash of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. And the slight, soft-spoken nun had a few not-so-humble suggestions for the world’s most powerful investment bank.

Way up on the 41st floor, in a conference room overlooking the World Trade Center site, Sister Nora and her team from the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility laid out their advice for three Goldman executives. The Wall Street bank, they said, should protect consumers, rein in executive pay, increase its transparency and remember the poor.

1. And now they are in trouble with the corporate hierarchy of their own organization.

2. We should? Why?
Don't expect moral values from a corporation. Their only ethical purpose is to maximize return for their shareholders.

The only way to impose moral values on them is to make laws enforcing it.

3. If the nuns actively join the 99%... we win

I'm agnostic but can tell you that after 12 years of Catholic school the last people you want working against you are nuns.

The Catholic Church is run by men and they know it. They give themselves to the cause even though they will never be seen as equals. Self sacrifice is their way of live and if they decide to take on the banks directly the banks are screwed. I can think of no leverage (other than male members of the church) that the banks could use to combat them.

Give it up Goldman Sacs, you can not serve both God and mammon and they have chosen one while you have chosen the other.

5. there is a monastery near me with some very active nuns.
it's just nuns, they run a high school, but also have a large home for older nuns and the management of their order. they are active in local antipoverty issues, and virulently anti-war. good citizens all.
i am a recovered catholic myself, but when it is just women, it is a whole different church, imho.

10. I agree
the men are the ones screwing up the church

FYI

http://www.reference.com/browse/Monastery

^snip^

In English usage, the term monastery is generally used to denote the buildings of a community of male monastics (monks), while convent tends to be used for the buildings accommodating female monastics (nuns). The term nunnery for the latter is outmoded.

7. It's a good approach, but will sociopaths listen to them. These people only
listen to the bottom line and shareholders. And they have no conscience. Their god in life is to maximize profit.
