is a former Governor of New Mexico who's seeking the Republican nomination for President. He's been in at least one televised debate, but has been excluded from most of them because of his low poll numbers.
The media don't treat all announced candidates equally. That's why Bachmann was on the stage at all, and also why she received less attention. You take the good with the bad, Michele.
Of course, it creates a vicious circle. A candidate like Johnson gets less media attention and therefore has low poll numbers and therefore gets less media attention. The only way out is to be so obscenely rich that you can finance a lot of staffers and paid media and drive your poll numbers up that way.
It's a rotten system, but I don't see an alternative. If everyone had to be given equal time, a horde of crackpots (an even bigger horde of crackpots than the GOP has now) would announce for the Presidency just to get the airtime and push birtherism or whatever.
