Why doesn't Mr. Obama support OWS?
I have looked everywhere in the media.. and I can not find one word from President Obama supporting OWS.

The people in OWS are the very people who elected him.. and put him into office.. hoping for change.

And he is too busy to even say a word of support?

The bubble can destroy a president. Every single one, but Bush, complained about it.

What does that mean... like the status quo , or he has to pander to his Big money donors first? Not sure.

28. Reagan talked about it, so did carter, Clinton, bush 1,
As the pressures grow, every president is forced to rely on his closest advisors, more and more. At the same time, those advisors cherish the control over access , information, alternatives, and dissent that they see. In this way, THEIR way is the more likely choice the president will choose.

At the same time, a president finds the insulation, support and sycophantic approval deafening, compared to outside voices. Yet, comforting, too.

The end result? The infamous bubble of the white house.

Actually, there is a much larger one, at the same time. The whole beltway has this aura of self importance that deludes, confuses and excites those within it. Dave Gregory is a clear victim, as are most congressmen, senators, and top aides. They really believe they have power, and actually, they do, but not like they think. The beltway is corrosive. The white house, even more so.

I think just a few words from Obama would do it, something like it's their right in a democracy. Maybe he has, I just haven't heard it ...

26. All true--but Axelrod and the boys are more concerned about that narrow ground...
known as the "mushy middle."

This election is shaping up to be a tight one, with the middle constituting perhaps 4% or so of the electorate. Axelrod's job is to formulate a strategy that can win 51% of that 4%, and there are far too many unknowns associated with the OWS movement, for a seasoned consultant like him to risk much more than tacit support.

SOME people worried more about principals they would not have such a close time in the elections.

48. There are no doubt many bones to be picked, but with such a wide range of
views being expressed, it is inevitable that some of them will be considered unwarranted and extreme.

It is also risky for them to not to have an an articulate and appealing spokesperson. That leaves them exposed to the first charismatic individual assuming a leadership role that may or my correspond with their message.

'Occupy' crackdowns coordinated with federal law enforcement officials

http://www.examiner.com/top-news-in-minneapolis/were-oc...

Over the past ten days, more than a dozen cities have moved to evict "Occupy" protesters from city parks and other public spaces. As was the case in last night's move in New York City, each of the police actions shares a number of characteristics. And according to one Justice official, each of those actions was coordinated with help from Homeland Security, the FBI and other federal police agencies.

The official, who spoke on background to me late Monday evening, said that while local police agencies had received tactical and planning advice from national agencies, the ultimate decision on how each jurisdiction handles the Occupy protests ultimately rests with local law enforcement.

According to this official, in several recent conference calls and briefings, local police agencies were advised to seek a legal reason to evict residents of tent cities, focusing on zoning laws and existing curfew rules. Agencies were also advised to demonstrate a massive show of police force, including large numbers in riot gear. In particular, the FBI reportedly advised on press relations, with one presentation suggesting that any moves to evict protesters be coordinated for a time when the press was the least likely to be present.

The FBI has so far failed to respond to requests for an official response, and of the 14 local police agencies contacted in the past 24 hours, all have declined to respond to questions on this issue.

8. Obama
is not a principled leader. He is a pragmatist. A pragmatic politician who has embraced bipartisianship. Which really makes him more of a negotiator than a leader. And, yes, it fucking shows. I keep hoping he'll grow a spine and become a leader. But I do't have high expectations. Even when he says something resenbling the right thing he manages to back away and trade away the homestead for some shiny trinket.

But camping out in public parks for weeks at a time then fighting the local cops hardly seems like the right kind of message.

OWS needs to get organized and take their message to Washington. They need leaders and they need to focus.

17. Here:
ABC

<...>

Obama said the most important thing he can do as president is express solidarity with the protesters and redouble his commitment to achieving what he described as a more egalitarian society.

“The most important thing we can do right now is those of us in leadership letting people know that we understand their struggles and we are on their side, and that we want to set up a system in which hard work, responsibility, doing what you’re supposed to do, is rewarded,” Obama said. “And that people who are irresponsible, who are reckless, who don’t feel a sense of obligation to their communities and their companies and their workers that those folks aren’t rewarded.”

There is zero consistency in the expectations of OWS. When heroic civil rights activist John Lewis asked to speak at Occupy Atlanta, he was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QZlp3eGMNI">turned away. I just cringed at the shame of it. Many here post snide remarks about the president and about seeing zero Obama 2012 signs at OWS gatherings. And now he is being berated for not speaking up (even though your post clearly proves that allegation false). I must say I just shake my head at the inconsistency of it all.

30. Actually, he does:
Obama, Biden Empathize With The 99 Percent Movement |

Both President Obama and Vice President Biden today empathized with the frustration felt by protesters carrying out the 99 Percent Movement that started three weeks ago on Wall Street and has taken hold in cities across the country. “The core of the bargain has been breached with the American people,” Biden said at the Atlantic’s Washington Ideas Forum this morning. Obama, asked about the movement at his press conference, said he thinks “it expresses the frustrations the American people feel” that “the same folks who acted irresponsibly trying to fight efforts to crack down on abusive practices that got us into this problem in the first place. So yes, I think people are frustrated and the protesters are giving voice to a more broad-based frustration about how our financial system works.”

33. I think it's a wise leader who watches and gives others a chance to lead.
Like mayors, et al.

And, lead or not, it becomes interesting what happens. Some cities are being quite amenable, thus setting examples for other peaceful ways to settle. Others are going in the wrong direction, outing themselves as hateful.

Did you read about how Oakland Mayor Quan leaked the conspiracy among 18 cities to coordinate a shutdown in violation of US Civil Rights?

Had anyone stepped in, we wouldn't have this event to really make a case.

44. the anti-Obama conspiracies re OWS are inconsistent: which is it?
is Obama anti-OWS because he's a fascist corporate tool and wants to brutally crush them, or is he behind OWS, along with funding from Soros or ACORN or whatever? Which is it, 'cause he's either for it or against it. And what does he gain politically by being anti-OWS? How come no one's mentioned the more obvious possibility that if any politicians are behind OWS it'd be the right wing, since they're the ones who always have to whittle down/carve up the Dem electorate to have a fighting chance and they know with the economy the way it is they'd never win majority votes in the election otherwise? Ever think of that?
