A Declaration from the Occupation

OccupySF / November 15th, 2011



We the People denounce the illegal police actions and evictions against our occupations.

We the People assert our right to peacefully assemble to exercise our right to free speech, and to petition for redress of our grievances.

We reject and repudiate the deliberately complex and prohibitively expensive permit process - a measure in place to curb exercises of this nature and discourage free assembly.

We find it particularly despicable and repugnant that there is a coordinated effort by local and federal officials to neutralize our movement and prevent us from exercising our rights. Let it be known that any action, interdiction, infiltration or other attempts to destabilize, disperse or displace us will be seen as an act against ALL of us. Supporting Occupations and community members will respond in nonviolent solidarity actions.

We stand in solidarity with all Occupiers in the Occupy Wall Street movement everywhere. This movement is bigger than each of us and bigger than our individual Occupations. You cannot evict an idea once that idea is rooted in the hearts and minds of the People.

We invite the 99% to feel empowered to stand up and do heroic things for themselves, for each other, for those that can’t fight for themselves and for those yet to come into this world.

We invite our communities to open dialogues on the pressing issues of mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness, and social and economic injustice as an entree into a greater conversation of the gravely important matters affecting us.

We are the 99% and we are here. We will not be silenced, we will not be removed, and we will not be remiss in our moral calling and natural right to a more just and equitable society.

8. A shame that our Corporate-owned Brian Williams and

Diane Sawyers, plus all the drecky types from the local channels, will never ever permit this image to come into our homes via the Corporate owned M$M.

Although there is always coverage of the cute dwarf goat that got stuck in the drain pipe at the local school.

17. Nobody I come across who is in their twenties watches TV news shows anymore.

Total waste of fresh brain cells to let paid liars try to fuck with one's mind.

Hooked up to the net and its trusted sites, they don't even bother to get upset about TV programs anymore.

21. Same here, Kaleko. And the best thing that can be done is

for everyone to turn off their Corporate Media. I think in fact, since they are a huge part of the problems that need fixing, a boycott of the media would be a big statement to the public about the role they have played in the destruction of this country.

Maybe a specific day, more to draw attention to the problem that is the media, like the 'Transfer your money day', would be a good thing.

But you are correct, I do not know any young people who get their news from the Corporate Media. They are losing their power, as this movement demonstrates, because without them covering it, deliberately at first, the movement grew like wildfire.

Add a photo of say, Erin Burnett along with her bio (worked for Goldman Sachs and is engaged to CEO of Citicorps?) with the question: 'Do you trust this person to deliver unbiased reports on the corruption of Wall Street'.

Could be a week-long festive activity across the nation with colored streamers hanging from the windows of everyone who participates. Plus dancing and live music in the streets. Why not?

a few more people think about what they watch without really thinking about it.

I can't watch them anymore. Whenever I am forced to because someone else is, especially CNN, I want to throw something, just as I felt during the Bush administration.

That would be wasted by companies if everyone just shut off their TV for the entire day. They can go on the internet.. and still not miss out on much.

29. When you deny people a voice they will protest. When free speech is money

and you can use all the money you want and you have all the
money you can buy the media, police, politicians and courts,
to silence the people. That leaves the people protest as their
only voice.

It really is an amazing thing to particpate in. :hi: Our Mayor Ed Lee just toured the site today and is unhappy with it -- you will remember we were due to be raided the night after the first big Oakland raid but a huge protestor presence and an upcoming election stopped it at the very last minute. Now that the election is done, I have no doubt Lee is going to make a move -- that means another long, chilly night protecting the site. I stil have a cough from the last night -- this time I will dress much more warmly. :D

I miss being in a urban area for just this reason... my town is 70 miles from the nearest occupy movement, but i am sending goodies when i can.

19. Occupy your block!

Put up a sign of solidarity in your window -- I think if everyone who is too far from a camp did that, it would increase exposure and really let the country (and our politicians) see just how much support Occupy has! And yes, our damp cold is some of the coldest "cold" I have ever experienced. :D
