Report: NYPD cop pushes New York supreme court judge into wall
http://boingboing.net/2011/11/18/nypd-cop-pushes-new-york-supre.html

Democracy Now! quotes NY supreme court judge Karen Smith:

I was there to take down the names of people who were arrested… As I’m standing there, some African-American woman goes up to a police officer and says, ‘I need to get in. My daughter’s there. I want to know if she’s OK.’ And he said, ‘Move on, lady.’ And they kept pushing with their sticks, pushing back. And she was crying. And all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he throws her to the ground and starts hitting her in the head,” says Smith. “I walk over, and I say, ‘Look, cuff her if she’s done something, but you don’t need to do that.’ And he said, ‘Lady, do you want to get arrested?’ And I said, ‘Do you see my hat? I’m here as a legal observer.’ He said, ‘You want to get arrested?’ And he pushed me up against the wall.

6. His bosses will not be happy
And maybe some of these cops acting like thugs will think now before acting like bullies. Frankly it should not take that. They should know how to treat people and realize that not everyone they come in contact with are criminals.

5. Wow, what are the odds the judge was talking to a corrupt, violent police officer?
99.99% of police officers give the rest a bad name.

busy giving the other 99.99% a bad name.

10. This I predict will be a very costly experience for NYPD & Bloomberg...
the entire culture of police work has been infected with the us against them mentality. Its fairly evident in the white shirts......they think they are on a battlefield and the enemy is the people they are supposed to serve. Its wrong and it will take time to get rid of this.

I saw a police academy class motto "if you want peace prepare for war" I was absolutely dumbfounded and they were selling t-shirt with it. I asked what a military motto had to do with police work and they couldn't answer.

The Punisher: I leave this as a declaration of intent, so no one will be confused. One: "Si vis pacem, para bellum." Latin. Boot Camp Sergeant made us recite it like a prayer. "Si vis pacem, para bellum - If you want peace, prepare for war."

The Punisher: Two: Frank Castle is dead. He died with his family. Three: in certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law. To pursue... natural justice. This is not vengeance. Revenge is not a valid motive, it's an emotional response. No, not vengeance. Punishment.

Punisher movie 2004.

12. What we are witnessing is Giuliani's Legacy
He's the one who turned these thugs on. Cleaning up NYC was his Mantra.

He created a monster.

11. That wasn't a smart move
I've been thinking something like this would eventually happen - a cop would get rough with the wrong person. I wouldn't want to be in that officer's shoes at this point.

26. Sure seems like it.
Working with the public is difficult in any job and probably worst for cops. But these guys seem to start out furious and escalate from there.

31. In recent experience it seems the corporate elite hold the law and judges in contempt.
Edited on Sat Nov-19-11 05:49 AM by Dover
So I'm guessing those in the legal field who actually believe in the rule of law will be in for a big shock, perhaps, as things go forward.
Laws are meaningless to the 1%. They've made it more than clear with attacks on uncooperative judges. We'll see more evidence of the real
split between societal rule and that of the corporate rule which considers itself a sovereign entity and outside our laws...

34. They seem to have forgotten that the law isn't there just to protect the 'little people'
from them, it's there to protect them from the 'little people'.
