This takes the cake!!! Rec'd email from Jill Biden asks me to sign Joe's B'day card
Wait...what?

Subject of email: Sign Joe's Card

"I know I don't usually send you emails, but Joe has a birthday coming up this Sunday, and I'm trying something new.

The First Family and I are putting together a special card for him, and we'd like as many supporters of this campaign as possible to add their names and messages for Joe.

Because the year ahead is going to be a big one -- not just for Joe and me, but for all of us. We've all got some work to do.

So help us make this birthday a memorable one for Joe. Add your names, and, if you like, your own notes and well-wishes for the year ahead:"

http://my.barackobama.com/For-Joe

Thanks,

Jill

Paid for by Obama for America

All I can do is just shake me head  With all of the problems in our country right now...I'm being asked to sign Joe Biden's birthday card???? For Pete's sake!

3. It's a virtual and folksy way of asking "Do we have your vote next year."
It also puts you on the "touch" list (donations), if you aren't there already.

Don't read into it more than it is...don't do it if you don't want to.

10. I would have preferred the straight-out question:
"Do we have your vote next year?" instead of this *folksy* round-about approach. Comes across to me as more of a dumb-downed tactic!

All work has stopped. The president and the entire executive branch have dropped everything and are doing nothing but this.

Of all the fucking things to complain about. Seriously?

I really hope nobody believes this is being handled by more than one or two low-level staffers.

Nobody should celebrate them for anybody - they should be more scourged that the fat man coming down the chimney annually with a bunch of junk I don't need.

9. I happily signed - Love Joe and think he's doing a great job. Just
because he has a birthday doesn't mean he's stopping working on "all the problems in our country".

It always stuns me that people think it's either/or.

This posted outrage on DU probably added 20 or 30 more signatures to his birthday card.
Hahahaha

Personally, I don't know how anyone can dislike Joe Biden. He's probably one of the least controversial and contemptous politicians alive. Even Republicans leave him alone.

34. Exactly. Priorities.
I am partly upset that the use of the time of this/these staffers to coordinate this could have been better spent on a much more important subject matter.

And while on the subject of priorities, in times past during war-time, our society maintained an ongoing, daily awareness about war and acted in ways surrounding entertainment that are quite different from the disconnect I FIND of today, which I also find upsetting.

A snippet about the history of the Academy Awards:

1942: The event is nearly canceled following the Pearl Harbor attack. Academy president Bette Davis suggests moving the event to an auditorium and allowing the public to buy tickets benefiting the Red Cross. Instead it is decided to tone down the event, as a 'dinner' rather than a banquet, including a ban on formal wear.
1943: For the first time the award statuettes are made of plaster due to the war. All are replaced with standard statuettes after the war ends.

Source: http://www.imdb.com/event/ev0000003/overview

I am sure that there are other examples along these lines.

The fact that time, effort and attention is being given to such a frivolous matter such as Joe Biden's birthday while more of our vets are committing suicide at a rate of 18 per day (more than has been lost in the wars themselves) gives me great cause for concern yet, the sobering fact of these suicides rarely get the attention it not only deserves but in fact warrants...which, if it did, might actually help to alleviate some of these suicides since, I would venture to say, that the vets probably come home to find that the unimaginable terror and horror that they have just been through is basically treated as pretty much a 'non-issue' in today's society.

I think what could have been a much better use of time and energy - along these lines - would have been for the White House to have coordinated something celebrating all of our vets and asking us to sign a card on THEIR BEHALF for appreciation and well wishes on Veteran's Day.

I would have thought that this was fairly obvious. Apparently not.

Priorities.

Americans by their police departments yet? I remember at the beginning of the Arab Spring, he said that 'Mubarak is not a dictator, he is a good friend and ally of the US'.

Guess if you're not a victim of a dictator, it's hard to relate.

42. It's a dumbed-down ploy the way I see it
Like...I'm all of a sudden on a first-named basis with the Bidens...and that is to suppose - all of a sudden what? Make me feel important because of this? PLEEEEEZE. Give me a break! It insults my intelligence and I feel sorry for anyone who has fallen for this.

It's a timley crap-shoot to try and wrangle up support as far as I am concerned...which tells me that they are running a bit scared if they have to resort to these sorts of cheap tactics as a measure to try and gauge and rally support, albeit on some sort of fluffy, sentimental level.

Geesh. Am I the only one that can see through this crap?

They're running scared and are trying to muster up any and all support for their party and hoping that we'll fall for it...or at least, can tally those who have fallen for it as a supporter come November 2012. Cheap. Shot.

Again. Major Insult to my intelligence.
